Travel Health Insurance

Hey All,

Last year I left the Yukon and had an injury in Ontario. I had to pay some things out of pocket and Yukon Health is still not responding to my claim.

Anyway this year I'm traveling again and I'll be heading South of the Border, I had purchased BCAA and was planning to get travel insurance through them but apparently they can only sell if I'm physically in BC.

They said to contact a local CAA but I don't think there is one?

Unfortunately I'm already out of the country, as my next stop was TD but they explicitly said had to be before trip departure.

Just curious what people have used and what options I have?

Edit: After much research World Nomads was my only real option for insurance after leaving on trip, so I went w them. Sign up was easy but we shall see if I have to make a claim.

I'll be dropping BCAA and looking to book before leaving next time perhaps with other carriers but for now, I'm covered! (Well there is a 48hr waiting period)

Another Work Life Balance Post

Greetings,

I'm currently traveling around in a minivan and have been considering getting my CDL in either Canada or USA. Not sure how hard it is to transfer but I'm kind of open to either at this point. Leaning towards US because I'm tired of snow lol

I'm doing fine financially but recognize I can't withdraw from my finances indefinitely and expect to retire with anything lol

Had a buddy talking about working 3 weeks on 4 days off OTR and I told him I'd want to take more time off likely. I would want to fly places in between and have real vacations, he said he thought that was totally doable and got me excited but the more I read the more I wonder how realistic that is. For reference he's just looking to get his CDL as well, so I understand I shouldn't take his word as gospel.

How big a difference between a driver vs owner operator? although I don't think I want to buy anything until I know the job is something I want long-term and even then I may prefer to not take on the overhead.

I don't mind putting in sometime for some seniority but basically I'd love to be able to do something like 3w on 2w off or just like, take a few 3w vacation per year or something. As long as I can fund my life style and not withdrawal from my retirement funds I would be happy. I understand taking time off means less money but how realistic is this?

Also curious to hear differences between US and Canada. Especially from someone who's worked both.

Is this a virus? Babysit.lol turns into weird link?

My friend who's a little older has texted me twice now and the most recent time put babysit.lol in the text and it made sense in context but this weird link comes up that seems super fishy to like buy a t-shirt?

I tested texting someone and it turned into a link too so maybe it isn't a virus but seems super sketched to me?

I apparently can't add a picture to this subreddit...

What's your real world results from flexible Solar Panels

Just hooked up a flexible solar panel to Van roof it's 100 w I'm getting between 40 and 50 watts in basically full sun.

I knew I would not get the greatest performance vs rigid but just curious what others get!

Edit: new record, just saw 60w!

Edit2: not really looking to get into a discussion between Ridgid vs Flexible, I chose flexible for a reason. Just looking to see what other people get to compare really.

Dodge Caravan Roof Rack Options with Flush Rail

I've got factory roof rack on my 2017 Dodge Caravan and it's not wide enough to carry two things. I'd love to get like 50 or 60-in bars but trying to figure out a way to attach them to my roof has been a bit of a nightmare...

Has anybody found a way to extend the factory roof rack or any aftermarket parts that might fit into the existing roof rail?

12v Adapter uses more power than 110v

I just bought a 12 volt CPAP adapter and hooked it up to my portable battery pack which showed between 40 and 55 watts, but when I used my 110v factory adapter it showed between 35 and 45.

I'm wondering if I need to order from the manufacturer or maybe my understanding is that I would get power savings because even though the output is slightly higher with the 12v, it's not wasting power converting to 110v?

Just looking to understand if I bought a cheap adapter or maybe I misunderstanding the readings on my power bank.

No ankle pump just hold!

Thought I'd share some surprising advice from my PT guy!

So I was told to do basically ankle circles earlier which I think the ABCs is better but anyway this time he told me to work on my dorsiflexion by just holding my foot as dorsiflexed as it could be for about 10 seconds vs pumps.

Also the obligatory it does get better! I have been improving dramatically after my second surgery!

Another shoe post lol considering buying something like Hokas or Brooks Ghost, I see lots of people recommending them.

Honestly I feel like steel toes with ankle support would be the best? Tie up way high?

Just kind of want to see what people's thoughts are has anyone preferred steel toe boots?

The ones I'm looking at look like glorified running shoes....
