MFM made me question amnio

Hi everyone! So I’m 40 and 19 weeks pregnant and I had my anatomy scan and it looked good! Baby girl is 65% percentile. I’ve had good results on NIPT and AFP.

The MFM made me a little uneasy because she was sort of encouraging an amnio based only on the fact that I’m 40. Every screening and scan has done great so I feel like…why take any additional risk? I wasn’t planning on it and am heavily leaning no but she made me question it. She said there’s still a 1-2% chance that there could be a genetic issue because I’m older and the risk of miscarriage from amnio is lower than genetic issue risk.

My best friend is also pregnant, six months older than me, also had all good scan results, and no one has encouraged this.

I’m not exactly sure what I’m looking for. I think I’d mostly like to hear from other 40+ women who were in similar situations (all good scans/screenings) and decided not to do it and feel good about that.

Update: y’all were very helpful. The conclusion I came to is that I’m going to do a genetic carrier screening. If anything is flagged for me, I’ll have my husband do it. If we have any of the same, we’ll do amnio and if we don’t have any of the same then the risk is extremely low at that point so we won’t.

Mimicking pregnancy hair

So I’ve had issues with hair loss for the last nine years. It initially started when I went off of oral contraceptives. Then it got much worse when I had a fibroid that led to low iron. Then I developed subclinical hypothyroid (although I may have had that all along and not known because taking biotin gives you a false lower TSH lab reading and aren’t we all taking biotin?). My hair loss fluctuated and it would always grow back but then would fall out again so it was perpetually different lengths and still quite thin.

Anyway now I’m pregnant and my hair shedding has stopped entirely and looks good for the first time in a decade. I know that this is just a pregnancy thing and that my hair will fall out after, perhaps even worse than it was before (seems like different people have different responses to the hormone changes)

So my question is - does anyone know if anyone is studying a way to mimic whatever is happening in our bodies during pregnancy to make our hair so freaking nice? I would take whatever pill or injection to get this forever. Is this not a thing because it’s impossible to make, it would create health issues, or because people don’t really care about studying women?

Any SAHMs in Pasadena CA?

I’m currently working full time and have worked full time for my entire adult life (I’m 40). I’m in my second trimester and heavily leaving toward not going back to work full time. I have a therapy private practice on the side that I can grow eventually but want to be a SAHM for awhile, maybe a year, maybe until baby is in school! Who knows.

Anyway I have literally zero SAHM friends and feel like I need…a mentor or something. Where do people go? What do people do? I know lots of people in here could also tell me these things but I’d love an in person friend or two! Thank you!!!
