Making your life feel more like Pride and Prejudice?

Hi everyone!

I've watched Pride and Prejudice for the first time a few days ago (the 2005 version) and I loved it. It's a real comfort movie with such a warm atmosphere, and the Bennet's house feels so cozy.

This is just a silly post to ask, are there any habits that you implement into your daily life to make it more whimsy, like you're living in the P&P era? I love to romanticize my life lol and I'd especially love to make my house as cozy as the Bennet's (even though my tiny apartment is much more modest!)

Some of my ideas:

-Lighting candles every night

-Reading a book before bed instead of scrolling

-Write letters with pretty handwriting & seal them with wax

-Dramatically standing at the top of a cliff and staring in the distance while my dress flaps in the wind (okay this one might be harder to achieve)

Would love to hear your thoughts!

Any no-kill cat shelter recommendations?

Hello everyone

I found a cat that seems lost (looks healthy and well-fed, a bit scared of strangers but not feral). I saw it two days ago on an elevated road near a river and it seemed very stressed and meowed pitifully. I've been giving it water and food since then. I cannot bring it to my house because my landlord is against it. Thankfully the cat seems to feel less scared now.

I think it's lost or someone dumped it here because it's near an apartment complex (Helio City in Jamsil). It's near a river trail where thankfully there are no cars and the cat can hide from the sun under the trees. The cat always stays within 50 meters of the elevated road I mentioned and doesn't seem to roam around like other stray cats.

First, we signalled the cat to the district but we've just learned that they tend to euthanize cats - I feel bad now because I didn't know, but apparently I cannot undo it. Also we contacted the shelter KASCA but they said we have to capture the cat ourselves and then register on the homepage before bringing the cat to them, which sounds like a lot of work (we don't even have a cage right now and cannot bring it to our house while waiting for the appointment).

Does anyone know of any no-kill shelter that could take care of her? If you have any other solution I'd also love to hear it. And if you live around the area and lost your black & white cat, seems like I found it 😅

How did you become Catholic ?

Hello everyone ^^

I'm agnostic but very interested in Catholicism. I grew up mostly secular but went to a (not very strict) catholic school, in a country where we have a lot of beautiful churches and I've always loved visiting them. I would actually love to become a Catholic but several things are holding me out for now (judgment of relatives, my own doubts, and most importantly Christian values regarding lgbt, contraception, etc.) I'm lgbt myself (bisexual woman married to a man.)

I found this sub and I'm quite interested to know more about you guys, if you'd like to share with me 😄 How did you become Catholic, or why did you stay Catholic if you were raised in the faith?

Wanting advice - From a curious agnostic

Hello everyone, I have no one to talk to about that and I wanted to make a post here to get some answers and share my story. Sorry, it's going to be long, in some ways I just want to vent my thoughts to someone else.

A little background about me : not baptised but went to catholic school and learned some prayers, but not a lot of catechism. Also had a friend whose parents taught me about the Bible. This family inspired me to the extent that I've always seen marriage as something very important and sacred. Her parents are still together, while mine divorced when I was young and it had a very negative impact on my life.

Now I'm an agnostic leaning towards deist. No one in my family is catholic. My friends are die-hard atheists. My husband is baptised but doesn't believe anymore. However, once in a while I've had this pull that I've never told anyone about, to come back to the Catholic church.

In the past few weeks, it's like I've been oscillating between 'The Christian God exists' and 'It's a religion like all the others, we cannot know what is true or not.' I've asked questions here and got great answers. But then tried to read Genesis and it really didn't resonate with me. I knew I had to try something else.

So two weeks ago, I went to a Catholic church and kneeled down in front of the cross. I asked God for a sign, a clear sign that he exists. I told him my door is open, that I'm ready to take a step towards him but that He knows I have a rational mind that cannot believe easily. I told him surely He would know how to lead me to him. I also asked Mary for help.

It's been two weeks, and I'm waiting. This week, I've decided to live more like a Catholic and try to pray every day, say some Hail Mary, etc. Maybe I'm doing this completely wrong, I don't know. I'm just trying to show God that I'm not rejecting him, that I actually want a relationship with him.

Here are a few things that are keeping me from believing, and that I'd love to hear your opinion on:

-I've been listening to a lot of NDE testimonies. Many of them talk about Jesus. However, not many of them talk about Mary, the Purgatory, etc. Also a lot of them mention reincarnation. So all in all I'm a bit lost and I wonder what you think about those.

-The existence of the Devil. Seems like a pretty big flaw in God's design. So from what I gather, Satan used his free will to be free from God and lead humanity away from him. However, Hell (where Satan reigns, I suppose?) seems like something God desired from the beginning: a place where people who don't want God can go. So are Hell and Satan approved by God? We could very well go to a place without eternal torturing if we don't believe in God: why put Satan in there to torture us for eternity? Or am I getting this wrong?

-The Bible: many parts seem mistranslated, and how can we know the people who wrote it really told the truth or recounted the events well?

-The whole design of our world seems full of flaws, and I have troubles reconciling that with a perfect God who loves us.

Things that make me want to believe:

-I feel good when I pray (Which I don't see as a reason to believe since people in other religions feel the same)

-I've always felt like someone was watching over me and protected me. (But it's a very egotistical thought as many other people aren't as lucky as I am, and there's a lot of suffering in the world.)

-My ideal has always been to have a stable family similar to the one of my friend. I'm kind of fascinated by big families with parents who still love each other, and they are often Catholics.

-The deep intuition that death isn't the end, a feeling that I've always had. Even when I was closer to being an atheist, this one was hard to ignore. However, there could be something different from what the Catholic church teaches.

-My own morality is starting to change. I've started to question things like abortion, open marriages, pornography, etc. I'm thinking there must be a source of objective morality. However, I would have troubles letting go of certain ideas (I don't think homosexuality is wrong, for example.)

Sorry for the long rambling, and thank you if you've read everything. If you're a former non-believer, don't hesitate to tell me more about what brought you to the faith.

Terrified about the future

Well, I had managed to stay off social media for a while or at least to look only at positive posts, but the algorithm knows how to make me spiral. This morning, I stumbled upon some news regarding a hacker leaking the plans of a certain secret society, I think you know what I'm talking about but I don't think I can develop here. Let's just say I felt insane reading the articles and like the world is about to end.

I'm not even American and yet I'm so concerned it's making me feel paralyzed and I cannot even focus on my work. I don't even know what to do? Should I bury my head in the sand and pretend things will magically get fixed? I feel like I won't even have a future at this point.

Genuine questions from a curious agnostic

Hello everyone!

I'm an agnostic and made a post the other day to ask about what made you become Catholic, and received very inspiring answers. I'm currently researching about Catholicism but I have a few questions and would love to read your input. I don't mean to offend anyone, I just genuinely want answers as I'm really questioning where I stand spiritually nowadays.

So basically my biggest "issue" with the Bible is that I cannot find any good reason why God would create us in the first place if he knew what was going to happen (i.e, us disobeying him in the Garden of Eden). If he's omniscient and omnipotent, surely he could have found a way to make humans both able to use free will but unable to sin?

The second one is, why did he need to send his own son (himself?) to die for our sins? Does it mean all the people who died before that went to Hell?

Finally, I have a hard time with the notion of Hell. If I understand correctly, a baptised rapist who repented can go to Heaven (or purgatory I guess?) but my atheist friends who never hurt anyone cannot? In your opinion, will they be tortured for eternity or will they just be away from God after death, like "not existing" without eternal life?

Thanks for reading, would love to know what your think! Sorry for all the questions

Hi, so some people in my building decided to start construction work from 8am this morning without noticing anyone, and they will keep going for the next 15 days. I work from home and I have regular meetings with clients, so the noise will definitely be a bother. I know a place where I can rent an office for 30 000 wons a day but I'm wondering if you guys know of a cheaper place in the Jamsil area? Thanks in advance. I have until Monday to find a solution and I'm quite stressed about this situation.
