The reasoning I use to justify my life choices

People asked me how are you so happy? How are you soo exceptional? How are you sooo full of life and optimistic, I tell them one thing.

This world is unfair, that is universally true for every person living but who are you going to be? Simply put, if life gave you two choices, will you choose SHAME or GUILT.

Now shame, let me be straight up, SHE SUCKS. She is ABSOLUTELY toxic, she is going to insult you, call you worthless and make you do things you normally would never do. However as time moves on and you grow, as you explore the world and learn more about yourself and how beautiful the world you would realize how absolutely wrong shame was. And once you learn that, you can move forward with your life.

On the other hand GUILT, this person she LOOKS like your best friend, always there for you, feeding you the sweet words you wanna hear. And every time you trip, she cries with you. But when the two of you come across an obstacle, when you trip what do you think Guilt will do? Cry alongside you, weeping about how much it hurts and that they should run away, and when they do, they imagine to themselves what if I faced that situation?

Sooo the person reading this, which one are you? Are you one who will face their problems head on, fail and get hurt, learn from the situation and grow as a person? Or will you run away from your problems with your tail between your legs, as you blame the world on your problems and daydream about what live could have been, if I tried?

Let’s talk about something positive

Here’s a thought, tell me about one good act you perform out there in the world, that normally you would never tell anyone else about, but you don’t mind telling to the online community.

My random act of kindness is that wherever I go, I always make sure I hold 4-5 $10 Tim Hortons card in my wallet, just in case I come across someone who is asking for help and I can give it to them. A small kind of gesture to someone in need where you KNOW that your kindness is providing someone with a hot warm meal and something to drink.

Soo how about it? What about you guys?

How I am curing my anhedonia

Hey all!

Long time observer of this subreddit, for about two years now, and I want to take this opportunity to share my journey with my mental health, my psychosis, mental health illness and anhedonia.

Four years ago, i was honestly living a good life. I started working my dream career as a first responder, making good money, good family and a fiancee i was going to marry. But despite all this, things suddenly went crashing apart. You see, my family may look great on the outside, but inside there is a lot of chaos. Those values, along with those from my career and love life, came crashing down all at once. Long story short, I was kicked out of my house, my fiance dumped me and my work put me off work for ill. That along with the weed and mental health crisis, pushed me over the edge. I was suicidal, my friends had to calm me down from jumping off a bridge, and my fellow emergency responders had to take me to the emergency room to be admitted into the psych ward. It was horrible, like my life had no meaning, like all I worked hard for was all for naught.

While I was at the hospital, i found out I had Bipolar illness with severe mania episodes and was given medications to take. And after about three weeks in the ward, i was allowed to leave. However the moment i stepped back into the real world, i felt absolutely hopeless. My depression kicked in, I was isolating from everyone, friends and family and that was when the anhedonia really hit in. Things i loved doing in the past, no longer seemed pleasurable, going on walks, watching movies, going to the gym, it all seemed like a chore. Even the career i worked so hard for seemed impossible to reach and for almost two years I felt i remained stagnant in life. I worked a few small part time jobs sure but compared to what I was doing before, it honestly felt humiliating.

But despite that over time with the help of the medication and my persistence to keep surviving another day, things had finally improved to the point my psychiatrist said I was alright to return back to my original job. Obviously not straight into being a first responder, but on a modified position. This helped me slowly adapt back into my workplace to the point where I started remembering what I love about my job, which is now empowering me to get back to my career as soon as possible.

And that is what is amazing, two years ago I was just like anyone else on this thread hearing how hopeless their anhedonia was, but I am here to tell you that does not have to be true. What you need to do to beat your anhedonia is to grow as a person. Every day striving to be the best version of yourself, to learn, to educate to take chances and to love yourself. The anhedonia is getting in the way of that, that's why you find no pleasure in this world. But once you find a goal worth striving for, colour will return to your world.

All the best, may you all live happy lives ❤️
