After seeing the amazing bird portraits by u/libberkib I tried to do a composition of a goldfinch in a landscape.

I keep thistle and wild theasle in my garden for these birds and love seeing them sit on the thorny plants.

Would love some feedback and critique.

Was thinking about Painting the Pool at a Camping ground in; we tried for some years now although it's nothing special.

I underestimated how much care I'd have to put into constructing the perspective and the chairs.

I'm still missing the catchy element in my paintings, so I tried to learn something by trying Geoff Allan's painting I really like.

A year ago I felt like my Spes 350N Officer Jacket was a bit too thin for Longsword sparring. So I put a cut up 6mm Yoga mat inside.

I always take it out for washing so I took pics and made this post for anyone interested.

It covered the whole top part from shoulder to neck and clavicle as well as the whole outside of the upper arm down to the elbow.

Freedom of movement did not change much, a bit when lifting the elbow above the shoulder. Still way lighter, cooler and more nimble than the Standard Ap I had.

3mm Eva would have been enough for longsword at my club though.

I overheat easily so I'll try something else this summer.

- First pic shows where it lay between the outer Fabric and the inner mesh lining. You can see the holes I used to secure it in place.

- second pic is where I opened up the Mesh to put the padding in. A Hands breadth was enough, I just rolled the mat to put it through. I put 5 holes in the Mat and put a piece of paracord through it and the mesh lining. Stopper knot on both ends keeps it in place.

- third and fourth pics are how I attached my plastron to the jacket. It annoyed me that I didn't cool off as well when opening the jacket because the plastron was still on me. Now it's on three buttons and some button band. It sits in place securely this way.

Shout out to Matty Burnham Art, he has a great style and beautiful Paintings. Unfortunately that style is a bit ruined for me because it reminds me too much of hundreds of ai pics I've seen on Pinterest...

Earlier today I posted about this company using hard to identify Ai Watercolor and pretending it was physically painted.

I guess you guys showed some displeasure on the Facebook page mentioned. It was taken down.

A year or so ago I found a watercolor and ink style on Pinterest I really liked until I realized it was all ai generated, watermarked by paint9art.

Also going under quiet painter on pinterest.

They sell colouring pages on their shop quietart.store. It sucks a bit that on several shell sites and Facebook pages they pretend to be actually painting this but well, that's business...

Facebook pages "Watercolor painting practice" and

"Watercolor start here" still link to that shop.

Who's in the mood for it could check out those sites, compare it to Matty Burnham Art and tell me if I'm imagining or too strict in my views.

They've taken down some of the most blatantly reminiscent of Matty Burnham's style from Facebook today so I guess they see a problem there...

I'm really annoyed, now they even contact people directly.

Every day I read here how people do commissions for 5$ up to still ridiculous 60$ for a hours practising a craft they practiced for years. And then you have "My Hobby is Watercolour" on Facebook getting a thousand likes for ai pics and dm-ing commenters to probably try to make sales.

I've seen paint9.art and some other names on Pinterest posting hundreds of ai pics and selling stuff on the quietart.store site for quite a while. This active hunt for sales on Facebook is going way too far.

I didn't draw the clouds in my sketch strong enough. So when I wet in wet the sky I didn't know where I was supposed to dab up the paint. Plan gone I started slapping on more and more purples in my panic - I was only given 5 minutes Paint time that moment and I just bought the purple... If you see the logic in that, let me know...

This led to me using purples on the crane later as well which I thought was neat.

The result is an atmosphere that I haven't painted before and is not at all what I envisioned for this painting.

I'd be happy to read some comments and constructive criticism!

The painting next to the photo was the first attempted and failed sketch.

I took this photo and really feel the atmosphere. The dramatic long shadows indicating it's late, empty playground. My kid sitting by himself on the roof. I liked the dynamic angles from the photo and tried to put them down in the thumbnail and graphite sketch. I still feel it somehow doesn't or wouldn't translate from reference to painting. Like it's missing drama and still is too cluttered...

Can anyone help with some insights how I could make this better?

Here I struggled with getting my darks properly dark again. I will have to check this paper. As soon as you put a damp brush on some mid value area it looks almost black. Kept coming back to make it darker because it lit up so much after drying.

I always walk my dog past on at different times of day. Maybe I'll try my hand at suggesting it's stone masonry next...

Which one of these two do you like more and why?

u/adventurrr posted a pink dogwood challenge recently. Based on that I painted the bloom of an European species.

Saw this cool bridge in Trogir. It won an international engineering award in 2025. Designed by architectural studio Prostorne Taktike.

First attempt at rusted iron. Tried not to stick to my reference too closely in the parts that were not central to my focus.

What do you think? Feedback appreciated.

First time painting rusted metal. I think it turned out well. The People really help. The water was better in my first attempt, the washes more uniform but it's not that obvious in real as in the picture.
