After yesterday’s ticket frenzy, I ended up with an A-List reservation for Dune that I didn’t make…

has anyone else ever had this happen to them?

after yesterday’s ticket frenzy, wherein I went to the kiosks and purchased tickets for about 6 different dates (mostly singles, just for me), I went thru and added all my tickets to my calendar. I intentionally used cash/debit to purchase all of them since I didn’t want to tie up my A List reservations until December. planning to use some of them on movies releasing sooner like Digger for example when those release.

after checking my A list reservations to ensure that I hadn’t accidentally used A list for any dune tickets, I was shocked to see an A List reservation for a Dune ticket on a day that I wasn’t even looking at for tickets, during a showtime when I will probably be at work. I have no idea how I could have accidentally done this as I was really intentional about which days I was looking for and got a ticket to every show that I was seeking.

the worst part is that the ticket seems to have been purchased at the kiosk, because I cannot view the ticket in my account online. It shows the ticket itself but there is nothing to click on so I can’t view the details. none of my kiosk purchases show up under my order history (why don’t they when I was signed in ?!)

i triple checked my paper tickets and I did not buy one for the date that my A list says I got a ticket for.

anyone had this happen or know how this could have happened? I guess it’s possible that I somehow stayed logged into the kiosk and then the person behind me in line used my account to buy their own tickets with my A list without realizing? Boy what a mess that would be if that’s what happened.

1 Ticket Available for The Odyssey in 70mm IMAX tomorrow Sunday 8/2 at 2pm (Promotional “Film” Strip show)

unfortunately it is not a good seat (B row, off to one side), but the show is completely sold out because they’re supposed to be giving out promotional strips that day. looking to sell this one or trade it for ANY seat at another show earlier or later in the day so I don’t have to miss work to attend. would also consider a trade for any show 8/6, 8/8, or 8/9 (but decent seats only for this type of trade). hit me up ASAP via DM if you wanna buy it or have another ticket to trade for it.

Sunday, August 2nd 2PM AMC Metreon (film strip showing)

1 ticket. row B. DM if you want it! Would also be thrilled to trade this ticket for a 6am ticket or a 10am ticket (same day, any seat) so I can still go without having to skip work.

Available: 1 Ticket for AMC Metreon 70mm IMAX @ 10am on Tuesday, July 28 (back row reasonably close to center)

I will NOT sell this ticket for face value as I was planning to attend the show myself (for my 3rd viewing), but I am willing to entertain good offers via DM! :)

Opening Day: IMAX 70mm (bad seat) vs Dolby (great seat)

Help me decide. I have a ticket for opening day for the very first showing of the Odyssey at 2pm in IMAX 70mm. This is the showing where tickets sold out like a year in advance. I guess someone cancelled theirs and I happen to notice and snag it. It’s a bad seat tho. A28 (at AMC Metreon in SF). I would really LOVE to get to see this movie in the very first 70mm IMAX showing possible. But I’m not sure if I’d be cheating myself out of a better experience by not waiting to see it for the first time in a better seat.

OTOH, I booked a ticket for a 3pm showing in Dolby a while ago when I realized I couldn’t get an IMAX ticket for opening day. I thought maybe seeing it on Dolby on opening day would be more fun than having to wait until a later date. It’s only an hour later than the official first show in IMAX, which is appealing, but I do have the same concern about possibly cheating myself out of the “first watch” experience in IMAX.

Either way I am gonna see this movie multiple times and either way I’ll make sure I do at least one show in IMAX 70mm from a great seat. I’ve booked seats for shows on dates further out that will achieve this.

Sounds silly but I’ve never seen a Nolan film in a theatre before at ALL, let alone one that was filmed for IMAX the way this one was. So I’m curious to hear what other people would do. Is it worth waiting to get that “first watch” experience from a good seat in IMAX 70mm on a later date? Or would you just go see it on opening day and plan to enjoy it from a better seat in IMAX 70mm for a re-watch?

(I have AMC A-list so cost is not a factor.)

Anyone know why there were fireworks going off at 2:45am today?

I’m so sad because I didn’t sleep well for the last few nights and I really thought last night was gonna be my night to finally catch up on sleep so that I could have a productive Sunday. Alas I was woken up to a series of loud cracking/popping noises that went on for a minute in the middle of the night. Anyone know why that happened? Anyone else get woken up by it?

Advice Request: How should I go about finishing an AS in math after a 15 year break?

so I used to be really good at math. probably my best subject along with chemistry and physics. this was when I was in my late teens up until I was 20 years old. I took up to differential equations and loved it.

unfortunately some trauma happened, I had to drop out of college in the middle of partial diff eq, started self-medicating with weed which helped a lot, but feels like it also slowed down my brain in this way that’s made math more difficult than it used to be. it’s been 15 years since i studied at university and I feel like I’ve forgotten most of the math I learned.

a few years ago, I took a discrete math class at a community college with the most challenging professor available. I thought it would be a good place to jump back in because I didn’t need to remember calculus or diff eq to succeed in it. I ended up doing really well in the course and found that I was really good at proof-writing, tho I did have to spend about 20-25 hours per week studying and doing homework since it was a struggle to get my brain back into math. I got an A in the course, I think I was ~ the 4th highest scoring student overall.

Anyway it turns out that I only need one math course to qualify for an AS from the community college, which is linear algebra. I could fight my way thru the course like I did with discrete math and I would probably be decent at it considering it’s also proof-heavy and I’m good at that type of logic. it also doesn’t require me to remember any calculus which is nice.

i kinda think I would feel like a weird fraud if I had an AS in Mathematics and I don’t remember any calculus tho. so I’m wondering if I should re-take calculus at the community college just to refresh myself. I genuinely enjoy math, but it’s also a bunch of courses and would take a while to complete obviously. and I’m not sure how useful it would really be so can’t decide if it would be pointless to do that.

any advice? if I do decide to re-take calculus, how do I figure out how far back I should go as a refresh? should I consider starting with pre-calculus? is there any type of placement test that’s advanced enough for me to get a real sense of where I should start?

Why do my orders get accepted and delivered so quickly when I tip $0 in the app?

I’ve heard rumors before that DoorDash increases the base pay when people don’t tip because their algorithm is offering whatever amount it knows that dashers need to see in the offer to accept the job. But I always constantly see drivers discussing how tipping is a bid for service and how non/low-tippers will be waiting a long time for cold food. Yet my experience seems to reflect the former because I tip $0 through the app so that DoorDash can’t lower driver base pay based on my tip amount. And my orders get delivered very quickly whether I’m ordering from restaurants a 5 minute drive from my place or places so far away that I’m getting charged an extra long distance fee. So why do I keep hearing about orders sitting around forever for non-tippers? Does DoorDash have different practices around raising base pay for no-tip orders in different locations/markets?

(I live in SF and I tip in cash.)
