Fan made web StarCraft game, Ashfall. Big update!

Two weeks ago, sad that the next StarCraft won’t come until 2030, I half-jokingly made the mini-game those mobile ads promise and never deliver, and posted it here (https://www.reddit.com/r/starcraft/comments/1wqdabw/). The feedback was really positive!

I’ve pushed a bunch of small updates since then, and this one is a big one, so I wanted to share it: a new commander, Artanis, a new companion, Wildcard, and a lot more endgame stuff. If you played it last time, it’s pretty much a new game.

Then something I really didn’t see coming: it somehow got really popular in China (for a few days). Over a million runs, and over half a million people played it there, in two weeks. I’d love to say that’s all the game, but honestly it hit a critical combo: it launched right before Golden Week, and StarCraft is a generational IP.

The part that made me happiest was reading some of the comments. A bunch of people played StarCraft for the first time through this, and now they want to play the actual StarCraft. Some asked why the mutators make the Zerg stronger. That made me really happy.

Also, before the "Artanis DLC" release, I made a mock trailer to poke a bit of fun at Blizzard. If you’re gonna copy Blizzard, you might as well copy the whole package, right?

Feedback always welcome! And thanks so much for all the emails and comments. Some I haven’t answered yet, sorry about that. I’ll get back to you.

I made the StarCraft mini-game those mobile ads promise and never deliver.

Like everyone else, I was pretty sad to hear the next StarCraft won't come until 2030. So I half-jokingly made this, and by the time I noticed, I'd taken it a little too seriously.

The mini-game those mobile ads promise and never deliver, delivered.
For Blizzard, who promised StarCraft and still hasn't.

You can play it with one hand, and your friends, brothers and sisters who never played StarCraft II can play it too.

[Every pass of Manchester City’s Centurion season] The River He Built

For Pep, and for ten years of Manchester City.

I first fell in love with Guardiola’s football before he came to Manchester, but it was at City that I really watched the idea grow into something larger, stranger, and more complete.

I never thought he would stay for ten years. I also never really imagined the day he would leave.

So I made this piece: every completed Manchester City pass from the 2017-18 Premier League season, all 27,523 of them, from the Centurions year.

I called it The Rivers He Built.
The lines felt less like isolated passes and more like water systems, constantly moving, splitting, reconnecting, and wearing opponents down over time. That was always the feeling of his City to me: not just possession, but pressure, rhythm, control, patience, and inevitability.

He did not just build a great team. He changed the way this club moved, the way it thought, and the way a generation of us understood football.

The rivers will keep running.

Thank you, Pep.

Indexed today's 161 declassified UFO files into a fully searchable archive. every photograph, sketch, and handwritten note also described as text. with Side-by-side viewer + 3D map

The Department of War dropped PURSUE Release 01 today, 161 declassified UFO/UAP files, 3.7 GB. The official release is a paginated HTML table with mostly image-only scanned PDFs.

What makes this mirror different from a basic OCR dump: every photograph, sketch, rubber stamp, and handwritten margin note in the source pages has been described as inline text via a vision-language model (mimo-v2.5, with a

gpt-5.4-mini audit pass on flagged pages). So a 1947 FBI photograph of "five-bladed propeller fragments" is no longer a binary blob you can't grep, it ships as a searchable English description right next to the surrounding typed memo,

in one flat record.

86.6% of the 4,153 source pages have ZERO native PDF text (image-only scans). Without the VLM description layer, that 87% of the archive is un-indexable.

What's in the archive:

- corpus.jsonl (14 MB): one JSON record per page, all 4,153 pages. AI-extracted Markdown with inline image-description blocks. Every record carries the original war.gov source_url + sha256 hash for integrity verification.

- 5 parquet shards (~2 GB total) on HF Hub: same metadata + embedded 200 DPI page JPEGs. Loadable in one line with the datasets library.

- Side-by-side PDF/Markdown viewer + 3D atlas (plain HTML+JS, runs anywhere with python -m http.server).

- corrections.json logs every metadata fix (location swaps, date typos, 56 N/A dates inferred from filenames) with rationale.

CC0. Source documents are public domain under 17 USC §105.

Today the U.S. Department of War released PURSUE Release 01, 161 newly declassified UAP records, the largest such drop yet. The official war.gov index is paginated across 17 pages and the metadata is rough: a Mission Report titled 'Arabian Gulf' was filed under 'Pacific Ocean', dates marked 'N/A' even when the filename literally says 1949, many mission reports redacted to a single sentence.

I cleaned up what I could and put all 161 on a 3D globe + 80-year timeline.

A few things stood out:

· ~40% of post-2020 records cluster around the Persian Gulf / Iran theater

· The 'Western US Event' (24 federal LE eyewitness photos, late 2025) is the most substantive part of the release

· 28 IR sensor videos including the INDOPACOM 9-second clip the gov narrator describes as a 'football-shaped body with three radial projections'"
