Day 100. And I cannot reach her. Since my last update, this is what has happened. She developed a fever and unbearable pain in her lower back — the same urinary infection a hospital diagnosed back in June, when it also ordered a nephrology follow-up that never took place. This time there was no doctor and no antibiotic: they handed her a urinary painkiller, which made her vomit, and then a pill for the nausea. When she vomits, the thyroid hormone she lives on does not absorb. She asked for an ambulance. She was refused. Her pulse has been falling: 51, then 50, then 49. An EKG was ordered and never performed. On Wednesday, Rep. Gwen Moore visited the facility where Kate is held. Asked about her health, officials declined to answer, citing the litigation. They did answer what holding her has earned the private prison company: nearly a million dollars in three months. Yesterday they finally drew her labs. Today they withheld the results — and cut off her phone calls and messages. So right now I have no way to reach her, and she has no way to reach me. She is alone in that room, and her condition is being kept from everyone, including a member of Congress. A week has passed since the federal hearing. There is still no written order. Drinking beers and listening to records and got in a nostalgic mood. Spun up LZII expecting a flood of nostalgic emotion from my middle school years when it came out but NO! This album kicks ass!
