Marcus was a crusader knight who was a battle brother of omniknight who died in battle by the hand of a nameless demon. After becoming a ghost, he dwelled around the spiritual world until he found the Omniscient One, which he called him for a mandated task to become a terror for ghosts or evil spirits, being given the title of the "Spectre". He entered the war of the acients after Nevermore told him that Omniknight was present in that war. Now, Marcus has joined the fight to end this endless cycle of suffering.
(I know I don't draw that well, but I really wanted to bring this idea of a persona to life for Spectre, who is my favorite character.)
