As someone currently in law school who religiously checked this sub (+the main one) while I was in the application process, take everything you read on here with a massive grain of salt.

It’s great that these communities exist and they can be helpful with certain things. Yet, at the same time, most of these comments are truly the blind leading the blind. The perceptions of schools, employment opportunities and how financial aid/scholarships work tend to be wildly misguided.

At the end of the day, if you’re not at a T14, your future is all going to come down to grades, networking and extracurriculars. As you are trying to decide which schools to apply to and eventually attend, do your own research, reach out to any lawyers/law students you have any sort of connection with and figure out what makes the most sense for you personally.

Heading out of JFK Terminal 5 next week for an international flight. I’m a frequent flyer out of EWR and typically show up, spend like 10-15 minutes going through security and walk straight to the gate. I don’t check bags and get my boarding pass on the app.

I’m not as familiar with JFK though and have never flown out of Term 5. The flight boards from 8:40am-8:55. If I got to Jamaica around 7:30 and took the air train from there, would I seriously be running the risk of missing the flight?

For those of you who have a genuine passion for this business, good for you. I’m honestly envious of that.

After five years, I’m headed back to school full-time to make a complete career pivot and I’ve never felt more relieved (as daunting as starting over is).

To anyone reading this with doubts about their long-term future in PR, take the leap. I regret not doing this a couple years ago when I began to realize the problem wasn’t the agency I was at – it was the career itself. If those doubts are seeping into your brain now, it’s hard to make them go away regardless of how many “wins” you get for clients.

To truly excel in this field, you not only have to love it, but also buy into the business impact of effective PR strategies and media placements. Maybe the solution for you isn’t going back to school like it (hopefully) is for me, but we have portable skills from this career. You can make it happen.
