Chimney Position For Gas Grill

Had the thought of drilling a hole in the lid of my Genesis 330 and installing a pipe to act as a chimney. The theory would be I could direct heat/smoke across the grill as a way to cook indirectly.

Going with this isn't a completely nutzo idea, which side of the lid should the opening be?

Over the single burner because better heat control with three burners on the opposite side.
Over the double (triple) burner side because low and slow only needs the one burner to stay in the heat range.

Haven't done much research into this as to the diameter size for the opening, but I'm thinking some sort of threaded pipe with nuts and sealant locking it in place. It would just have a screw on cap on the end since once I figure out the opening size, it's more about allowing the heat to travel from one side of the grill to the other.

Anyway, just a thought.

New Casters Or Wheels On A Genesis S-330

Used these casters:

Maybe should of got the set with brakes, but it's too late now. Also, maybe should of got the 3 inch versions. I'm 6 foot and the grill height isn't bad, but it's the opening of the lid: I have to reach over the grates just a little too much to fully open.

Dimensions are as close to what the factory ones are as my Harbor Freight calipers will allow. I know they look like they are leaning, but everything went in snug and the pins are flush with the plastic holders with no wobble.

Don't know how they will last being outdoors all the time.

First Time Around By Myself

30 feet. 4x6 post with 6x6 at the end. Pretty sure I will match the 7 foot height when I do the last 100 foot run. Posts are 3 foot deep with WAY too much concrete in each hole. Since this part of the yard is a major drainage point, I coated the bottom 4 feet with plastic roof cement mainly because no one in the area had the wraps in stock.

I tried to use as many 6 foot pickets as I could, but the last two sections were 6 foot three inch.

Not perfect, but a decent learning curve.

The plan is when I do the 100 foot run at 7 foot is to use a 2x12 as a bottom spacer and run the normal three stringers with 6 foot pickets. Should be fun. Might have to share that fun.
