Well there has been a lot of progress on the pier. They have stripped the forms at the center pavilion and installed some of the wood. The pile work is almost done as they are driving the last of the piles on the outer pavilion. They have started forming on the outer piles as well. Today the crew started running in from the site so I looked closer.... Seems they had a visitor...
A few vids on the concrete pour that they are working on for the middle pavilion. At this rate will likely have the concrete for it done by the end of the week if they get good weather. The pile crew is still hammering away as well.

Well they are plowing ahead with construction. The support deck is in place, they should be installing the re-bar for all the concrete soon. Then forming and pouring. Plus they have been slowly driving piles out to the end but that's going to be a bit as I imagine they want to get the concrete for the center pavilion done. Pretty impressive so far. They removed the "stairs" up to the storage trestle. Not sure why. Do love the look of the end of the trestle, it reminds me of Johnny Fives eyes peeking over the beach. ( For you young folks, go watch "Short Circuit" for that reference ).

Been a busy week. They now have temporary decking out over the water to the location of the first pavilion piles. They have started on putting in the construction "floor" to start on forming the bents and connector beams on the pavilion. One small oops mid-week when the shore crane had a chain failure and the lift slings came free and recoiled enough that it broke the railing off the decking in one spot. They really need to get a small boat out there with a motor on it though, watch one of the crew pushing one of the small work platforms out in the surf by walking in the ocean until only his hard hat was out of the water. Then later he was trying to move it around with a long 2X4 as a pole! There is now a stairway up to the deck so they don't need to walk all the way back to the shore to get to the material storage area. From all the stuff they carry out there it looks like they could use a few garden carts to load up and pull out there. Or something like a DR Power wagon if the decking can carry it.
Have also decided that out of every job out there, I'd take laborer over running one of the barge tugs, watching those things bouncing around like a rubber duck in a toddlers bath makes me want to lose my lunch! Do you have to strap in to even stay in control? I've watch bull riders get tossed around less!
Well it appears they want folks to know who's doing the work. Putting up the banner there to block the view. Might have been better for it to be on the sand to the right or closer to the camera so it doesn't block the view so much. However a good wind will probably strip it down, that is a pretty large sail.

Well it's looking more like a pier now. Other than the short connection area (which is formed in now) the concrete is poured all the way out to the first pavilion area. A lot of the form work is stripped, they still have the "floor" in place over the water. Which is smart as it means that you don't end up swimming if you slip. However I suspect they will remove it as soon as they get the temporary deck in place. Some of the water and electric chase is in as well. However there has been a casualty. Big Red, the crane on the beach has been torn down for some reason. If anyone knows what is going on please post. Not a good look to be a crane without a boom...
8/12/2026 - As a further update. Big Red has been removed from the site. There is now a smaller Link-Belt unit in his place. Not a bad looking crane but not as imposing.. Plus at around 07:30 on 8/12 they poured the concrete into the two small links. Cannot tell from the camera angle but it appears that they finished pouring out to the end of the form work, which should mean that new concrete now stretches out to the edge of the pavilion area (where the old concession and rest rooms were)
Crew is working hard even though the rains keep coming. More concrete poured. More stringers up. The last piece where the arrow is (short connection beam) will get them connected to and off the beach with the concrete at least. They have already poured quite a bit out on the water but with the camera location it's getting hard to see where they actually are as it all blends together as the angles get tight. Still unsure about the trestle, with the way they have been pouring and how fast, it may be faster to work off the barges than build out farther. They could bring in the other flat barge, drive a concrete truck on it and go out and pour a full load. Come back in while they are working the surface and drop the empty truck. Repeat the next day.
Well they have been hard at it today. Pulling forms and pouring concrete. Looks like they are getting the next section ready for concrete pretty fast.
They are adding more stringers for the new deck. There is one request though, if you know of a Dr. that prescribes Viagra, the crane could use some... LOL
The Pier so far. Some new wood going on. Forms out over the water. Still don't understand why they didn't form up the connecting beams with the rest and instead went in and formed them on their own. The storm the other day left knee deep water where the darker sand is. Folks were scrambling to get the wood out of the water before it floated off or was damaged.
Good progress so far. Odd thing today though, it appears they are removing the steel piles and other pieces that were intended for the trestle out. Not sure what that is about, unless they have decided to opt for working off barges instead of the trestle? Anyone know about that.
The new concrete looks real good although I'm wondering about the connecting beams, it appears that the next sections have them, judging by the re-bar and form gaps, but those haven't been formed up yet?
Thanks for cleaning it, but now it would be useful if we wanted to watch birds and planes.
Still following, especially now that some concrete has been poured. The piles are driven out to the first pavilion area and they are working on those. They are working on the trestle and have some of it's deck on. Do have a couple items though, if anyone has a real answer I'm listening.
1 - The trestle only has real support at the two main "beams" setting on the piles, what is the rational for building it so much wider? Just for storage or smaller things to get around a crane? Or is the steel they are using much larger in reality and the camera is making it look small?
2 - Why use wood forms built on site? Here that is used for small or DIY type jobs, for everything else you use steel forms, bring them in, pin them together on go. MUCH less work and even using bargain basement lumber I can't think that it's cheaper. Plus I would think that a lot of the things involved would more or less be a standardized thing. Like a bent used in one pier would likely be the same size as one used in another pier.
3 - Does anyone think they will be done with construction early?
This was one I was reading and it vanished, just trying to find it again. It had Harry and Hermione as Aurors and she was dating Ron but broke up with him early in the fic. The basics were that they walked into a criminals lab and Hermione got hit with a cursed potion. The effects being that she has to have a lot of sex or go mad. Because Harry was there when she woke up, she bonded with him and has to have sex a lot. Ron gets upset. Then, while they are searching for a cure they discover that there is only one, Hermione has to get pregnant for the spell to go away. But she also has lost all rational thought and speech. The writing was well done but it just stopped and vanished. The last chapter I read had Harry in a mental state because the healers had convinced him to get her pregnant and he was feeling very guilty, she was slowly coming out of the spell and Harry was trying to explain when POOF the fic vanished. I tend to read on AO3 but have looked at others, but I cannot find this one again. It was mature or higher in the rating as there was descriptions of the sex.

" I have received several questions regarding the new "Glock Ban" that was just signed by New York as part of the new budget, and I have already seen a lot of bad information floating around, so I want to provide some analysis and guidance for everyone. *Standard Disclaimer: I am an attorney, but I am not your attorney. This is not legal advice. This law is brand new and there has been no official guidance from NY. It will certainly be challenged in court and may be struck down, amended, or modified*
TL;DR: As of 5/31/2027 it will be unlawful (a Class D Felony!) for a Dealer to transfer a Glock (or presumably any Glock clones), except for certain limited exceptions. Note that the law does not ban the possession of Glocks, and any Glocks owned before the effective date are essentially grandfathered in. If you want a Glock it would be a good idea to buy one within the next year.
NEW DEFINITIONS: As part of the new budget bill, NY has amended several provisions of section 265 of the NY Penal Law. Full text of the relevant language can be found at https://legislation.nysenate.gov/pdf/bills/2025/s9005c, starting at page 4/75. It amends the definition of "Machine-gun" to include "any convertible pistol that is equipped with a pistol converter".
It also amends the definition of "Pistol converter" to clarify that it attaches to the rear of the slide and replaces the backplate and allows the pistol to discharge "a number of shots or bullets rapidly or automatically with one continuous pull of the trigger."
It creates a new defined term "Convertible pistol" which is "any semi-automatic pistol with a cruciform trigger bar that can be readily altered by hand or with common household tools so it can be converted into a machine-gun by the installation or attachment of a pistol converter." Specifically excluded from the definition of "convertible pistol" are hammer fired semi-automatic pistols or striker-fired semi-automatic pistols which do not contain a cruciform trigger bar. It further states that a "notch, tab, or other piece of material on a pistol frame is not sufficient to prevent ready alteration so that the pistol can be converted into a machine-gun...and will not prevent such pistol from qualifying as a convertible pistol...if such notch, tab, or other piece of material can be readily removed with common household tools."
Finally, it creates a definition for "Cruciform trigger bar" which is "a component in a semi-automatic pistol that serves as a linkage between the trigger and the firing pin and has its sear incorporated in a cross-shaped surface."
ANALYSIS: Although called a "Glock ban" it is really a "Convertible pistol" ban. Convertible pistols are striker fired semi auto pistols that have Glock style "cruciform trigger bars." This would presumably include all Glock "clones" are any other current or future design that has a Glock style trigger. So while calling it a "Glock ban" is mostly accurate, it is actually broader than just Glocks. Also the language about notches, tabs or other material seems to be squarely addressed at the Glock V-series of guns and making clear that these are also considered "convertible pistols".
But what is actually "banned" by this new "Glock ban"?
Section 265.10 of the NY Penal is amended to add a new subdivision 10 which states:
"10. Any dealer in firearms or gunsmith who, on or after May thirty-first, two thousand twenty-seven, sells, transfers, disposes of, or transports or ships as merchandise a convertible pistol shall be guilty of a class D felony."
As I tell folks that take my pistol permit classes, New York laws have broad prohibitions like this and then usually several exceptions, and this new law is no different. Section 265.20 contains an exemptions to Section 265.10 and a new subdivision f. is added, which states:
"f. subdivision 10 of section 265.10 of this article shall not apply to the following:
the disposition of a convertible pistol...to persons in the military service of the state of New York or the United States when duly authorized by law or regulation to possess the same;
the disposition of a convertible pistol...to police officers...
the disposition of a convertible pistol...to peace officers
the disposition of a convertible pistol...to persons engaging in the business of gunsmith or dealer in firearms to whom a valid license therefor has been issued...
a private party to private party transaction conducted through a duly licensed dealer in firearms;
the sale, transfer, disposal, transportation, or shipment of a convertible pistol to a duly licensed dealer in firearms or licensed gunsmith by a private party who lawfully owned such convertible pistol prior to May thirty-first, two thousand twenty-seven;
the sale transfer, disposal, transportation, or shipment of a convertible pistol by a duly licensed dealer in firearms or licensed gunsmith to a private person or another federal firearms licensee or licensed gunsmith, where such convertible pistol's immediately preceding owner and possessor, prior to the licensed dealer or licensed gunsmith was a private party who lawfully owned and possessed such convertible pistol prior to may thirty-first, two thousand twenty-seven; or
the sale, transfer, disposal, transportation, or shipment of a convertible pistol between members of an immediate family, as such term is defined in...the general business law, provided that such convertible pistol was lawfully owned and possessed by such seller, transferor, or a member of the immediate family of such seller or transferor prior to May thirty-first, two thousand twenty-seven."
ANALYSIS: This law does not ban the possession of Glocks, however it makes it a Class D felony for a dealer to sell any convertible pistol starting 5/31/2027. The only exceptions are lawful transfers to 1. military; 2. police officers; 3. peace officers; 4. dealers 5. private party to private party transfers conducted through a dealer; 6. selling/transferring a pre 5/31/2027 Glock to a dealer; 7. Dealers reselling used Glocks if the prior owner was a private party that owned the Glock before 5/31/2027; 8. sale/transfer between members of "immediate family" (which is between spouses/domestic partners or children/step children only) again provided that the Glock was lawfully owned by the seller/transferor, or member of the immediate family of such seller/transferor prior to 5/31/2027.
So if you have a Glock, or buy or acquire one prior to 5/31/2027 it is grandfathered in, even though it technically meets the definition of "convertible pistol". Transfers to "immediate family" of pre 5/31/2027 Glocks is allowed as is selling/trading one in to a dealer, and resale by that dealer of pre 5/31/2027. Private party transfers, done through a licensed dealer will still be allowed, presumably without limitation on when the Glock was acquired, unlike the transfers to dealers and immediate family.
Among the many problems with this law is how will dealers know when a pistol was lawfully acquired? Since they are facing a class D felony, I suspect many dealers will just refuse to deal in Glocks whatsoever as the risk to reward ratio is completely skewed - I suspect this is NY's goal.
Further, private party transfers of post 5/31/2027 Glocks between individuals (provide they go through dealer) is allowed, but not sales directly from dealers. This creates a perverse incentive for exempt non-dealers to buy banned Glocks for the purpose of reselling them. This is not speculation on my part, this has already been happening for years in California where exempt law enforcement were buying guns that were not available to non-LE and reselling them for a hefty profit.
As usual this law is a complete farce, and will have no impact on crime. It will certainly be challenged in courts (I have already donated to Firearms Policy Coalition, I encourage you to do the same). However, to be on safe side, if you are planning on buying a Glock I would STRONGLY encourage you to do so prior to 5/31/2027. Glock availability is already a little spotty right now, with V series guns fairly available but newer Gen 6s are very difficult for me to get currently, as are other popular models like the 43X. So do not wait; sooner is better than later. Also, if you do not have your pistol permit yet you need to get started immediately. Most local counties you are looking at 3-6 months AT BEST from the day you turn in your permit to having it in your hands. I have classes scheduled but if those dates don't work reach out to me and we can try to make other arrangements. Time is of the essence! "
The camera location has moved and it looks like an upgraded camera as well ? as it's VERY clear now. Seems to be higher and set at a wider angle. THANK YOU! Crew seems to be moving along pretty good as they dodge the rain storms that seem to be daily. The trestle construction seems to be a real pain though. If I understand it, they need to drive those steel piles in until they hit something solid, not just a friction pile? If that is the case, why not build the pier itself that way, seems like it would be far stronger.
The poor Earthcam camera got whacked again. Still shows some of the work though it's aim is way off. To the folks who clean and adjust it, if at all possible it would be nice if the camera was turned to the left so the crane and trestle area was more visible. Construction seems to be moving right along, I think they are pretty much done driving piles on the shoreline and they are working on the ones in the water. Can anyone ID the tree/shrub next to the camera? Has some weird leaves compared to the stuff we have up north, they look sort of like a lily pad? Really want to see the process of the concrete work,
