Homeowners insurance in Naples is getting completely out of hand. Any broker recs?

I knew the insurance market here in SWFL was a mess, but shopping for a new policy this month has been an absolute nightmare.

Our current premium for the house just went up by almost 40% and they’re offering way less coverage. Looked at the print last night and the hurricane deductible is crazy, plus they basically excluded water backup. Feels like if a bad storm hits the coast again, we’re just paying out of pocket anyway.

A neighbor of mine told me to stop wasting time with mass-market companies if the house has a higher valuation. He said the big retail guys just screw you over on claims anyway and suggested finding a private broker to look into a proper high net worth insurance policy instead. Apparently those private client setups actually cover storm damage and water backup without all the crazy sub-limits, but idk, I’ve never used a private broker before. Always just got standard online quotes.

Kinda lost here. Anyone in the Naples/Collier area actually happy with their coverage? Did you find a decent independent agent or are you just biting the bullet and overpaying the big carriers?

Quick reminder for all: It is illegal to impede the flow of traffic by driving excessively under the speed limit and/or lingering in the left lane. Please drive safely! Thanks.

Please don’t ruin the roads for everybody, thanks!

Italian italian everywhere but no spumoni ice cream in supermarkets

We spend 6 months each year in our Naples home, and find it amazing that in a place named for a city in Italy, a city full of "Italian" restaurants, spumoni ice cream cannot be bought in a grocery store. We're in whitebread McHenry county IL and the Kroger and Jewel Osco stores, here and everywhere in this huge metroplex called Chicagoland, stock and sell spumoni year round. We can get it at an ice cream shop on Airport Pulling just north of Davis, but pass FIVE supermarkets on the way, and it turns into a 26 mile round trip.

Shipping vehicle from out of state to Naples

This may be a question geared more to snowbirds.

I’m looking to send one of my vehicles down to Naples from Pennsylvania.

While also debating just driving it down myself.

Does anyone have personal recommendations for services they have used to transport cars from the northeast?

Thanks

Any secret spots i should be aware of to view the fireworks?

No way I have to be right on the beach, right? Is there anywhere to view them close by that I can stop at so I dont get swarmed in the middle of traffic?

Restaurant folks of Naples — how do you actually survive May to October? I worked the floor here for years and I'm convinced the off-season is a matching problem, not a jobs problem.

Same story every year: hours die in May, rent doesn't. But the restaurants I've talked to are simultaneously struggling to keep summer shifts covered. Workers and open shifts exist blocks apart and can't find each other.

I got frustrated enough to build an app around it (Putora — I'll drop details in comments only if anyone asks, not trying to spam the sub). Mostly I want to hear how you all actually bridge the summer — second jobs? Bonita? Savings? What would actually help?

I don’t know how much longer i can handle this

I’m 21.
Thanks to TikTok, my parents decided to move us here.
Why is it so damn hard to get a job? I’ve applied for everything—from janitor positions to bank teller roles—and nothing. It feels like nobody is actually hiring.
I’ve sent out over 200+ applications and haven’t gotten anywhere. I’m honestly so sick of this. It’s miserable.
How do adults even survive like this? My dad and I both can’t find work, and I’ve had to sell almost everything I own just to get by.
Here are just some examples of where I’ve applied multiple times with no response:
Publix — 10+ applications
Uline — 3 times
Target — 7 times
Best Buy — 5 times
Walmart — 6 times
Verizon (I have experience) — 3 times
T-Mobile — 3 times (not even interview stage)
7-Eleven — 2 times
PNC — 2 times
Chase — 2 times
And nothing.
I know I have a sweating condition—I’m aware of it—but I’m honestly exhausted of everything piling up. I used to live in NYC where I had a stable job and benefits, and now it feels like everything is gone.
On top of that, my college only accepted 7 out of 30+ credits from New York, so I feel like I’m starting over there too.
I don’t even know how much more I can mentally take of this

( yes i used ai for this post to make look clean)

OOPs... Somebody want to tilt the camera back down... Please.

Thanks for cleaning it, but now it would be useful if we wanted to watch birds and planes.

Is Red Tide a big risk in early August?

Wife and I are trying to finalize a trip in the area, first week of August. Wife I guess came across the Red Tide risk. I've looked back at old posts during this time in previous years. I know nothing is ever a guarantee but how big of a risk is this during early August?

Hotel in downtown

Hi! sorry another post, lol.

I am thinking of staying at a hotel on 5th ave which is downtown right? Is it calm or rowdy at night? I am from Miami so I don't think I will experience the same level of craziness but just wanted to ask and make sure

Neighborhoods with kids

Hi! My family is considering a move to the area. We are “late in life parents “ with an 11 year old son. Can anyone recommend a few neighborhoods that would be great for kids? My son loves all things outdoors. My husband and I love the beach. I would really appreciate any recommendations to help us learn more about the Naples area.

The Pier, The Pier....

Still following, especially now that some concrete has been poured. The piles are driven out to the first pavilion area and they are working on those. They are working on the trestle and have some of it's deck on. Do have a couple items though, if anyone has a real answer I'm listening.
1 - The trestle only has real support at the two main "beams" setting on the piles, what is the rational for building it so much wider? Just for storage or smaller things to get around a crane? Or is the steel they are using much larger in reality and the camera is making it look small?
2 - Why use wood forms built on site? Here that is used for small or DIY type jobs, for everything else you use steel forms, bring them in, pin them together on go. MUCH less work and even using bargain basement lumber I can't think that it's cheaper. Plus I would think that a lot of the things involved would more or less be a standardized thing. Like a bent used in one pier would likely be the same size as one used in another pier.
3 - Does anyone think they will be done with construction early?

Fitness Boxing Group

Hi, we have a small group of ladies here in Naples that get together for fitness boxing workouts. No sparring, just holding the boxing pads & mitts for each other, and doing some fitness exercises too. Any ladies interested in possibly joining?

Cedric Gervais @ Perry Hotel

That was honestly incredible. Shoutouts to everyone involved with putting this day party together. This needs to continue. I feel like there was some bundled up energy for SWFLA today like why can’t we have this? Why do we need to travel to Miami or Tampa for this type of event? It was absolutely incredible. Well done and let’s keep it going !

I need just one persons to take a chance on me 🙏

I have a full time job that i love, but it isn’t paying the bills by itself. It is so difficult to live out here on one fixed income. Picking up more hours where I’m currently at won’t help me because I’m on salary.

I’m looking for something long-term and flexible. I’m very reliable. I’m a leader and I go above and beyond in everything that I do. The current job I have I’m a manager, so I work five days a week . Hoping to find a job I can work on my two days off from there. I’d also be able to work the mornings on the nights that I close. I’m even willing to work doubles on my two days off. Please message me if you have a job opportunity that I can apply to
