A lot of folks crack on Coverdale and Hagar for being unoriginal/cheesy …

I think this is usually based on an unfamiliarity with their bodies of work/decades of output. Yes, there were moment/songs/career choices that were not great, but c’mon now …

Montrose were a seminal and highly influential early Hard Rock band. Sammy gets a lot of points for that.

Coverdale replaced Gillan in Deep Purple and knocked it put of the park with the Burn album and his solo career.

They both went on to create/be involved with some of the more incredible Hard Rock music ever. I think certain folks dis them just because it’s fashionable to do so.

Tipping is necessary in the USA because …

Employers are allowed to pay restaurant employees garbage level wages and shift the monetary compensation on to customers. Such complete b.s.

AITA for flouting our town’s current outdoor watering restrictions ?

A little background; We had near record snowfall this past winter and torrential rain for most of April and May. All local reservoirs, ponds and lakes and at or well over capacity. Streams and rivers are cresting.

Over the past decade or so our town has allowed gross overdevelopment of new apartment complexes, retail space, hotels and restaurants, all of which use quite a lot of water. Not to mention banks and office parks who seem to have their sprinklers on constantly. And yet they’ve imposed very harsh outdoor watering restrictions on private homeowners. Two days a week from 4pm to 7pm is all that’s “allowed”.

I don’t water my lawn, I just let rainfall take care of that. But I am an avid gardener and hand water my vegetable, flower beds every morning and keep my birdbaths fresh.

I just feel that as a taxpayer who also pays a rather confiscatory quarterly water bill I am entitled to this moderate use of water.

Am I being an asshole here?

People who finish every sentence with “you know?” or “right?”.

I find this very annoying. If you have something to say, just say it without seeking validation. Just own a statement. It’s fine to do it once in a while if it fits a conversational rhythm, but those who can’t say anything without a validation seeking finish are just not fun to talk with.

I really can’t stand people who insist on taking through walls.

I had a college roommate who did this constantly and now a wife who no matter how many times I tell her it’s annoying still does it. I hate having to ask someone to repeat themselves (I also hate being asked to repeat myself) and don’t get why stepping in to the next room to say something within earshot is so difficult.

People who enter nearly empty waiting rooms with plenty of empty seats and sit right next to you anyway.

Especially medical offices. This isn’t wholly a germaphobe post. Perhaps partially, but mainly it’s just “Why?”. When there is all kinds of available seating and space, why plop down right next to someone else? It’s even worse when someone does this and wants to make conversation. I don’t know if it’s antisocial of me or not, but then I don’t generally look for interaction when waiting for a doctor, dentist or whatever.

Coverdale really managed the transition from 70’s Hard Rock to 80’s Hair Metal better than most if not anyone.

Updated a few of his 70’s/early 80’s tunes in to then modernity with the help of other musicians and producers and really kinda blew most of the up and coming 80’s/LA guys off any stage.

Which Metal mag did it best back in the day?

As a teenager I bought and read them all. Thinking back, for me it‘s between Circus and RIP. But they were all great in their own way.
