Finally! A great torch solution for the table

After quite a long search, I finally found a great torch solution for IN-PERSON games. This checks a LOT of boxes for me:

  • Battery powered, so I don't have to worry about plugging anything in (just need to remember fresh batteries)
  • Controlled by remote, so I can shut it off easily
  • Different colors - white, red, blue and green
  • Dimmable (only for white, I think). Which is great because the white light at full strength would definitely be annoying shining in everyone's eyes
  • It even has a choice of timers (15, 30, 60 and 120 minutes)
  • Came as a 3-pack so I always have a back up

My plan is:

  • Use use a separate timer anyway so I know exactly how much time is left on the torch
  • I'd put this in front of whoever is holding the light source
  • I'd probably use the red light for torches, and then maybe white for lanterns and perhaps blue for magical light. That way, I'll remember at a glance who has the light and what kind of light it is.

Slightly pricey at $25, but my guess is this will last me quite a long time since there are 3 of them and they're battery operated.

Jungle adventures for ShadowDark

I have ideas for what I would run, but was was wondering what table-ready jungle adventures the community would recommend. Always looking to expand my ever-growing collection! Right now I'm blending hex maps and adventures from:

  • Cursed Scroll 4 entries
  • Final Torch Issue #1 (obviously)
  • Sersa Victory
  • Might also throw in some old TSR stuff like Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan

First time running ShadowDark outside my friend group

It took a bit of doing to leave the comfort of my dining room table to run a game for total strangers, but I'm so glad I did. It went so well that I feel spoiled by the experience. The people were great and creative and fun! Shadowdark is such a delight to run and I genuinely relish the opportunity to be an ambassador for the game. Everyone had a great time and we can't wait to play again.

If any of you GMs are having trouble adventuring into the unknown like so many crawlers, I highly recommend it. Even if it doesn't go perfectly, it will be a learning experience and it will be one step on the path toward better GMing.

I can honestly say that it went so well that I was afraid I'd wake up the next day to find that I'd only dreamt it!

On Monday, we were strangers to each other; but Tuesday we were well on our way to being friends who, I dare say, have many great sessions ahead of them.

Scarlet Minotaur labyrinth advice

Anyone have experience/advice on running the labyrinth part of the map in Theater of the Mind fashion? I can offer graph paper for mapping, but was hoping to run it all ToM.

GM looking to run Shadowdark group. I'll happily teach the system and have several locations where we can play.

I'm looking to run some games and need some players outside my home group. I'm absolutely willing to teach those who don't know the game.

Where: Brothers Grimm Games (Selden), Genesis Comics (Ronkonkoma), open to other ideas

Schedule and Frequency: Based on interest
