AITAH for telling my brother that he has no right to judge my parenting when his own parenting is awful?

I (28M) have a brother (40M), I only met the guy 2 years ago. Very long story, I'm not going to explain that right now. But me and him are naturally not close cause we never met until 2 years ago. We get along well enough but we definitely don't act like brothers. He is a bit of an arrogant guy to be honest, he thinks he is better than everybody else and he is just not the nicest guy.

My brother has 3 kids (17M, 15F and 14M). I've noticed that all 3 kids can not listen to any rules. They kind of just do what they want and there aren't many rules at my brothers house. All 3 kids don't try their best at school. They don't participate in any extracurricular activities. The family all eat dinner in separate rooms, I'm pretty sure the kids eat in their bedrooms and watch TV. But overall the kids are just really rude, they lack manners and they always to say something snarky. All the kids demand money from their parents all the time. My brother is scared of them, even if he will not admit it.

However, they aren't my kids, it's not my business how my brother parents. So I keep my mouth shut. My kids are 3 years old and 1 month old so they are much younger than my niece and nephews. Which is why I try not to comment on my brothers parenting, cause all he will say is "Wait till your kids are older."

Yesterday we were at a family dinner at my sisters house. My 3 year old daughter had a tantrum and hit me, I set a firm boundary and told her not to hit or otherwise she clearly needs a time out if she can't be kind. In the end, she went to time out for 3 minutes and then we spoke about what happened. She apologised, she gave me a hug, then we continued with our day. My brother walked over to me and told me that I am being way too soft as a parent. He said that it's necessary to raise my voice sometimes. I tried to shrug it off but he kept going on and on about how I'm going to raise kids who are disrespectful. Which is ironic considering his kids are extremely disrespectful.

After a few minutes of him ranting, I just casually told him that he is the last person I would take parenting advice from. He asked what I meant. So I told him that his own parenting is not exactly perfect, I mentioned a few incidents where his kids have been disrespectful to other family members for not reason, I said that he has no right to judge my parenting. My brother said "Oh so you think my parenting is awful." I straight up said yes. Then I walked away.

He hasn't spoken to me since, and honestly I don't want to speak to him either. But my sisters keep trying to get my brother and I to talk, they keep telling me to just apologise to my brother. No way, I don't regret what I said. He keeps acting like his family is perfect, I'm tired of his attitude. Now they think I'm being unreasonable and immature

AITAH?

As of this morning, I am officially a father of 2

My baby boy was born earlier this morning at 5:03am, here at home. He's 9 pounds 8 ounces. And he is absolutely perfect. Still no name yet but we definitely have some name ideas right now. He has a lot of hair, no wonder my wife had such bad heart burn. My 3 year old daughter is coming over to meet him later today (And for people wondering based on my last post, according to her grandparents she has completely forgotten the Ipad even exists now lol. We threw it out the same night I made that Ipad post). I can't believe I have another child. I'm a father of two. Honestly I was scared I wouldn't be able to love another baby as much as I love my daughter, but I already love this little guy just as much as I love his sister. My heart is full. A son and a daughter...I am one blessed man.

Mama is getting some well deserved rest after that marathon, she had a long labor when our daughter was born too. This time, my wife was in early labor for 3 whole days and then was in active labor for 24 hours, we almost had to go to the hospital because of the prolonged active labor but the midwife reassured us that everything was fine, and my wife pushed for 3 whole hours. What a freaking trooper.

Right now I'm just sitting in the rocking chair with my baby sleeping in my arms and I figured I should inform daddit of the newest addition to my family.

We took our daughters ipad away. Was this the right decision?

Hi, so I haven't used reddit in a few years but I really feel like I need some advice from other parents right now. My wife (27F) and I (28M) have a 3 year old daughter. She turned 3 in February. We aren't an anti-screen time family but we never intended to buy our daughter an Ipad. However, last Christmas my wife's mother decided to very kindly buy my 3 year old an ipad. Like I said, my wife and I never intended to buy her an ipad but we also never told our families not to buy her an Ipad so this was a very thoughtful gift from my mother in-law. My daughter was 2, almost 3 when she got the Ipad.

We obviously set limits, the ipad didn't become a babysitter of course but I will admit she did use the Ipad daily. We did notice that her behaviour got a lot worse during this time, she was throwing more tantrums and she wasn't listening to us. However, we did kind of assume this was because she was turning 3, we have heard from other parents and family members that a lot of kids tend to become really opinionated and they start to push boundaries more when they turn 3. So this was our assumption as to why she was behaving so badly.

Of course the idea of the ipad causing her behaviour crossed our minds but we did dismiss the idea because we monitored the type of content she was watching on the IPad (No YouTube, and she only watched movies and TV shows that my wife and I approved of. And she played games on her Ipad.) We have heard a lot that often times the issues with devices is not devices themselves but instead the issue is the content that kids have access too. Which is why we dismissed the idea of the Ipad being the issue. Because the content on the Ipad was heavily monitored.

Well recently, we went to a family reunion with my wife's side of the family, this is a yearly event where we all stay in a large Airbnb for a few days and hang out with family. We travelled early in the morning so our daughter slept during the car ride. Due to the time we left the house we accidently forgot her Ipad, especially because she was asleep and obviously was not asking for her Ipad. So the thought of grabbing the Ipad didn't cross our minds at 2am. When we got to the Airbnb, our daughter did ask for her Ipad and she did throw a brief tantrum when we told her we didn't have her Ipad. But 5 minutes later she was running around and playing with her cousins.

Those 4 days we were at the family reunion, our daughters behaviour was so much better than usual. She was so happy, she was constantly hugging me and my wife, bedtime was much easier, she didn't throw a tantrum after that first initial tantrum about the Ipad. Overall, it was like she became a completely different kid.

We went home and she got her Ipad, then immediately we noticed her behaviour got worse again. So me and my wife had a real serious discussion and we started to realise that maybe the Ipad is the issue. And we made a decision to take her ipad away, cold turkey.

It's been 3 days since we took her Ipad away and....man I'm struggling, she is not reacting well to her Ipad being gone. She has asked for it every day since we took it away and she has been throwing tantrums constantly. We kind of assumed this would be less difficult since she seemed perfectly fine without her Ipad at the family reunion, but she is really getting angry about us taking the Ipad away now.

I just feel stuck right now, I really thought taking the Ipad away would be for the best but her behaviour has just gotten worse these past 3 days. Constant tantrums, getting angry about everything, throwing her toys. Obviously we do discipline her and she isn't getting away with bad behaviour but I don't like putting her on time-out every day for her misbehaving. And every part of me just wants to give her the Ipad back, I just need to hear from other parents right now who have been through the same situation. I feel so overwhelmed and I just don't know what to do anymore.

I was meant to reply to all these comments but my wife has started having some painful contractions and we are unsure if she is going into labor so I've obviously been looking after her. She has been having contractions the past few days but not consistent enough to be labor. They only started getting extremely painful tonight. But I will start responding now

Had the best fathers day ever.

I used to post on this account a few years ago, I deleted all my posts cause I was trying to delete reddit but it seems like I didn't actually delete my account. So I want to share what fathers day was like this year. Cause I'm just so happy.

My son was born, at 12:24am on Fathers day. Here at home. My wife is amazing, our son is perfect. I probably spent like 2 hours just holding him once my wife fell asleep. I really forgot just how quickly that feeling of unconditional love hits you. From the moment he was born, I just suddenly could not remember how we lived without him as part of our family for 3 years.

After getting like no sleep, I woke up because I heard my 3 year old daughter running to our bedroom. (Don't worry, I made sure she didn't run in the room and meet her brother before my wife woke up. I wouldn't let my wife miss that moment.) So me and my daughter made breakfast.

Well I made breakfast, she simply ate an apple and kept telling me that "Mama doesn't like bacon" (Mama does like bacon).

Brought breakfast upstairs to my wife. I also brought mine and my daughters breakfast upstairs too.

Our 3 year old daughter met her baby brother, she didn't want to hold him at first but she did give him a teddy bear from her playroom.

Honestly the rest of the day was very relaxed, my wife got to stay in bed and hold the baby, me and my 3 year old went for an afternoon walk where I promised to buy her chocolate milk. We also made sure to buy my wife some flowers and some of her favourite snacks. We ate lunch at a restaurant because there was already too many dishes in the sink at home from me cooking breakfast, I wanted to avoid the dishes for another hour or two. When we got home, I attempted to deep clean the house and get all our laundry done, although I did have to continue the cleaning on Monday cause realistically...who is able to deep clean the house when you have a 3 year old toddler who doesn't have an ipad and isn't interested in the TV. I made dinner.

We usually are a "dinner at the table only" family but my wife was exhausted. So we all ate dinner upstairs on mine and my wife's bed. I made sure to make a dinner that isn't too messy for the simple reason that I didn't want our bedsheets to get ruined if our 3 year old accidently dropped some of her food.

So yeah, no card, no gift, no handmade arts and crafts, no breakfast in bed for me, but this was the best fathers day ever.
