We all know amethyst can be baked to turn it orange, but I recently learned that the same can be done with smoky quartz!
I had to try it.... now its time for me to go learn about the science behind it :)
Got this beauty a few years ago, im out of touch with larger specimen prices these days. It's just over 55kg, 121lbs ish.
Any ideas on the valuation?
As always, im aware the figure is whatever someone is willing to pay for it, i just dont want to massively short change myself.
Its from the Wenshan region of China and has a lovely wooden base.
Excuse my absoloute freaking glee in the videos, im so happy this shed faceting lapidary abomination has actually worked! Didnt get to polish as she flew right off the dop. (Cheers gorilla glue!)
Overall happy with what came out from some scrap wood, two hinges and a small L bracket 😅😅
Girdle needs work next time, looks like i didnt grind enough on some of the facets!
Will try again tomorrow :)
Stone is at end if you dont wanna watch the whole video.
The setup is towards the end too :)
In hindsight I should have got some gideo of the machine in action, and the pavilion steps, but i was just too excited 😊
My favourite piece from the entire lot!
Little guys eating some hay?
Squirreled this one away as soon as I polished it haha
Hey everyone.
Polished one of these yesterday.
I was worried about attempting these as im still fairly new to the hobby, was reallt scared I would mess it up!
I skipped a few grits and didnt expect it to end up as nice as it did.
By far the best polish ive ever achieved.
Looking for any tips/critiques/wowcoolrockbro, this one was too good not to share!
I polished another 8 today, some larger and some smaller. This one is my favourite.
Excited rambling over,
Al.
