I’m not really a “collector” and know nothing about buttons, but I pick up cheap mixed bags when I find them. Mostly to use for my knitting projects but also just because it’s fun to go through and match up pairs or sets.
I got these for 100nok (~10usd) today. My favourites have to be the apricot brains and the little blue heart with flowers :)

Looking for some age info on this painting I thrifted (Bergen, Norway)

Someone in r/antiques suggested I post this here for the experts :)

It’s painted onto wooden board rather than canvas, which has warped somewhat over time. I have another local painting on similar wood so I assume this was because of the cost of painting on canvas vs wood at the time.

The signature is “Per Haugland”, not an uncommon name in Norway. No date that I’m able to see, but I haven’t taken the frame off to check if it’s concealed. I worry about damaging it by messing with the frame.

The church’s tower cap had this shape design from 1802-1944. Someone in the other sub pointed out that the steam ships in the harbour suggest 1880-1910’s.

Painting age? (Western Norway)

Thrifted this painting of a local neighbourhood today. There is a signature but no date, and it’s painted onto a wooden board a few mm thick rather than canvas. The wood is somewhat warped as well.
The church’s tower cap had this shape design from 1802-1944, but that’s my only clue.

Are we blocking Lettlopi?

I’m making the Maja cardi and usually block all my FOs, but I’m fairly sure that blocking isn’t an always practice with Icelandic/scandi knitters traditionally.
But I mostly wonder if I should block for the sake of my stranded colourwork..

Would you recommend blocking or is it unnecessary with lopi?

Help with ID of this big ol clam (found around Whitby/Scarborough coast, UK)

Found this on a uni trip yonks ago, and I can’t remember the exact beach without digging out my field note book. I’m trying to make labels for the display cabinet, so any help appreciated :)

Any ideas on where this Gypsum came from?

Bought it in a mineral shop in Cyprus a few years back, and if there was a label I neglected at the time to take a picture or write it down.

It has a funky “sandwich” sort of growth to it, if that helps at all?

I’m making info labels for my display cabinet now, so if anyone recognises where this piece might have come from that would be great :)

How can I make this sweater fit better?

I got this sweater from a flea market recently and I really love it, but I’m 157cm and most clothes just don’t fit my shoulder area well.
I’m a very novice sewer but an experienced knitter. I know I could undo the seams and frog the knitting to make the fit better, but it’s a vintage sweater and the yarn is a bit felted so I don’t think this would be the way to go.

Maybe someone here who is more experienced with sewing garments be able to guide me a bit with making the V-neck less insane. (Or just tell me it’s not possible so I can cry and let the sweater go to someone else)

Assume the “008” of the marks is for 800 silver, and that the stamps are upside-down relative to the cherubs. Any ideas on the circular mark (makers mark?)? I’m novice at this, obviously 😂

Location: western Norway. It feels like rock, tapped it against my teeth and it still feels like rock. I’m generally ok with fossil ID but haven’t had one of these in the hand before -real or fake- to know what to look for. Paid 99nok for it so no major loss if it’s a decorative replica :)
