Hello everyone! Today I’ve build one of this rarely seen watches.
Honestly I never saw anyone building one of these 😛

Specs:

Gen spec custom case
Custom vj72 dial
Modded st19 movement
Domed plexy
Gen spec flat steel bezel
Gen tube 6040 and gen crown 604 (brass internal)
Correct hands for this reference
(subdial hands are smaller and the continuous seconds hand is different)
Special flat endlinks bracelet modified to fit Rolex buckle

A special heart for a very special build ❤️

I wanted to show you something rather special: my Valjoux cal. 725 with flyback chronograph function and a gen one line rolex bridge 😁

It’s fresh from the bench after a complete service and overhaul and running beautifully like brand new!

For those who may not be familiar with it, the “flyback function” or “flyback complication” is a module installed on the chronograph’s gears that allows you to reset the chronograph while it is still running, without having to stop it first. With a single push, the hands instantly fly back to zero and start timing again

It’s a pretty fascinating piece of watchmaking history, and definitely not something you see every day ❤️

This particular movement has a special destination: I’m going to use it in a very special vintage Daytona build that I’m making for myself 😛

I’ve been planning this one for quite a while, and having this beautiful 725 ready to go makes me even more excited to finally put everything together

And after that… I will do the same on the 729, the valjoux72 variants with the GMT!!

I had a short break after dinner this evening, roughly half an hour, so I decided to spend it doing what I probably enjoy far too much: working on my watches 😁

I made a few final refinements to the case of the tropical white panda and changed its bezel, I also swapped the silver Solo VJ back into the 6238 case

That left me with two very different combinations: a pre daytona with a Valjoux movement and a 6241 with a Seagul one

Before my remaining free time disappeared and I had to get back to the kids, I managed to take a few photographs of both watches, including some side by side shots

I thought it would be interesting to put them together in one post and give everyone the opportunity to compare them directly: the case, proportions, finishing and overall appearance

They may be built around different movements but seeing them next to each other really highlights the importance of these news cases in vintage Daytona rep game, understanding that cartel / jkf ones are completely outdated!

Anyway, enough talking 😁

After dinner I found myself with about half an hour of free time, and of course I couldn't think of anything better to do than messing around with my watches 😂

I did a little more work on the Tropical White Panda of yesterday, refining the case and changing the bezel, and then I put the silver Solo dial on the Valjoux movement back into the pre daytona case

So, by the end of my little evening session, I had a Valjoux build and a Seagul build laying next to each other

I had another ten minutes before I had to go back to my dad duties, so I grabbed my phone and shot some pictures of both watches, individually and side by side

I thought it could be interesting to share them here, especially because the two watches are so different inside yet pretty the same outside, both with their unmistakable vintage daytona’s features and appearance

So, here there are few shots for you! Hope you enjoy them!!

So I ended up with a 6238 powered by the Valjoux and a 6241 powered by the Seagul

So, this is a fantasy watch of course!

Can’t upload more than one video and this is just a try but it gives already the vibes of what will it be!

I will use a 6263 case, a bezel assembly from 6542 and a black insert, as for the movement, it will be a Valjoux 729 with the gmt hand! Hands probably will be from the Heuer Autavia 😛

It’s a crazy project and someone has to do it, as I did the Paul Newman Daytona with the flyback complication on a Rolex converted movement from a Valjoux 725 base

Wanted to share this watch to show how the aging came out here! :)

I wanted to share with you the build I finished today: a tropical white panda, built around a beautiful high-quality dial.

This one took me some hours to complete, but as always, the real challenge wasn't simply putting the watch together. It was trying to give it the right character.

The dial started with a beautiful white panda tropical base, and I worked on the aging using a combination of oxidation and patina, carefully building up the tones rather than trying to force an "old" appearance.

During the process, I also introduced a tiny amount of dust particles and small imperfections. Nothing too obvious but just enough to break the perfection of a brand-new dial and give it that subtle, naturally lived-in appearance you see on genuine vintage pieces.

This is probably the part of vintage watchmaking I enjoy the most.

A perfectly clean dial is easy to understand.

A genuinely convincing aged dial is much more difficult.

The goal isn't to make it look old.

The goal is to make it look like it has actually lived.

Every little imperfection has to make sense.

Every shade, every mark, every trace of oxidation has to work together without becoming excessive. The best result, at least for me, is when you look at the watch and don't immediately think about the aging process at all.

You simply think:

<<This watch has a story…>>

And that's exactly what I try to achieve with every build.

When it comes to quality, there is no room for compromise.

I’m always looking for better components, better techniques and better ways to reproduce the little details that make these vintage watches so fascinating.

Sometimes I spend hours working on something that most people would never notice.

But that's precisely the point!

Those are the details I build the watch for! ❤️

And after hours at the bench, surrounded by steel, tools and ticking movements, there's always that moment when you finally put everything together and see the finished watch for the first time.

That's the moment that makes all the work worth it.

Another little piece of vintage character brought back to life. ⌚❤️
