Got my first “big job”!

So recently after working at a really crappy job and walking out because the owner was ableist, I decided that I wanted to get a job that is more suited for my strengths. Literally 12 minutes from my house, a lumber mill was hiring for numerous positions. I’ve been eyeing them up since the pandemic and really wanted to work there. Sure enough, I applied and got an interview. One interview after the other… I got hired as a truss assembler! Starting pay is $20.00 an hour which is decent here in Canada as a 24M starting his first big job! Cant wait to get started on Monday! Oh, and it’s a four day work week too! Fridays I have off however each day is 10 hours (6:30am to 5pm).

Failed my DZ at Walkley

The driving portion of the test went very well. It was the pre-trip inspection that got me. You can only get one mistake on the schedule one out of six schedule one questions. Even if it’s just a minor detail you miss as easy as pointing to a wrong vehicle component by accident, that’s a point. Make sure you study the schedule one as much as possible because it can get difficult at times. Trucking school is very intense and stressful, so a positive attitude is key despite how hard everything can get.

As much as I was frustrated, I think my nerves got to me a little bit, but oh well. We keep going and try again.

As the title entails, I got down on one knee yesterday. The amount of adrenaline and nerves that I felt throughout my entire body when I said “will you marry me?” felt so surreal yet exciting. She said yes!

I have been told that not a lot of folks with autism get married and I knew that I wanted to get married and start a family with my fiancé in the future. I haven’t told any of my family members yet, I told my best friend and her family also knows! My parents always told me that I will never be ready for a relationship because of my autism and OCD with no real explanation why that would be the case. I am on top of everything and take care of myself to the best of my ability.

2026 has treated me very well! New job, getting my trucking license and now I am engaged! We plan to marry in the fall of 2027 which gives us lots of time to save up for a small sensory friendly wedding with only 50 guests.

I have made some big strides this year and cannot wait to start this new chapter with the love of my life!

▲ 5 r/OCD

Hey everyone. I am fighting off a cold right now and every time I get even slightly sick, my OCD goes absolutely haywire. My intrusive thoughts about self harm and sometimes my compulsions get out of control. Is there a reason why this happens? What can I do about it to make it easier to cope?

Thank you

Hey everyone. My girlfriend (23F) who is neurotypical and I (24M) are moving in together this September with two of her friends to cut costs on rent and utilities for all of us. This will be the first time moving out of my parent’s house and actually living with my girlfriend. Don’t get me wrong, I am beyond excited to be living with my girlfriend, but I am also very nervous for maintaining a place and also how expensive rent is right now. My OCD really has a grip on me when it comes to finances and I tend to either save too much or spend too much money at once. I do work at a lumber yard and I quite enjoy it and my girlfriend is almost done college for early childhood education which is why we are moving in the fall. My girlfriend has two friends that are sisters who are going to college nearby where I work which is why we are looking at a townhouse. Rent is expensive though. For myself and my girlfriend combined, we will be paying $1,400 which is only half of what the average rent of townhouses in Ontario are. Her friends will each be paying ~$700.

I’m absolutely nervous about paying major bills for the first time on my own besides my car, but I know that everything will be ok. I would highly appreciate any advice to kind of help me prepare for this big change.

Thank you everyone :)
