We have a small WC and part of the wall was damaged when we had the main bathroom done a couple of years ago. No one realised, us included, that the dividing wall was fragile half brick. Anyway, now we now fed up of looking at the damaged part and want to do a cheap and cheerful redecoration but the bathroom is covered in this old textured vinyl wallpaper. Wallpapering over it seems like the most straightforward way make the bathroom nice again but I'm very cautious about stripping the wallpaper on the fragile wall as I don't want damage it further.

I was considering scuffing the current wallpaper and priming it with primer sealer, then putting some wallrock fiberliner on before painting or wallpapering. Is that a sound way forward?
