A sad day in Yate

After 60 years in the shopping centre, Meredith's DIY hardware shop is closing. They were there when the first American style shopping mall in the UK opened in 1966. They were the last man standing.

This is the place that has everything you needed and stuff you didn't know you needed. It will be missed.

Thanks to Pat and family for keeping it going this long. Enjoy your very overdue retirement.

(Please donate the original signage to the heritage centre)

Advice on porcelain pebble firing

Prompted by a post I just saw about slipping bisque and just single firing.

I'm going to be making a lot of pebbles from the clay body that I usually use for bowls - Audrey Blackman porcelain. The pebbles are going to be stamped with a message and unglazed. I'm saying pebbles but flattish irregular discs is probably a better description, about .5cm thick and 3cm diameter.

Audrey Blackman fires at 1220°c - 1280°c. Do you think I can do a single firing and what schedule would you use?
