Foreigner coming to Philippines.

How to know if he is serious? They said, if you’re looking for a serious relationship, don’t meet someone who has been to the Philippines a couple of times. They are not serious.

Polish guy says I’m his girlfriend, but never actually asked me to be his girlfriend — are we in a relationship or a situationship?

I met this Polish guy on Tinder, and we’ve been talking/dating for a few months now. We haven’t met in person yet, as we’re currently long-distance.

He calls me his girlfriend, but he never actually asked me to be his girlfriend. When I brought it up, he said that in Europe, people generally just know when they’re together and there isn’t necessarily a formal “Will you be my girlfriend?” question.

I understand that dating culture can be different from country to country, so I’m not really concerned about the lack of a formal question.

What I’m actually trying to understand is how seriously he sees our relationship.

When he calls me his girlfriend, does that normally mean he considers us to be in a committed relationship? And if someone considers you their girlfriend, does that generally imply that they are dating with the intention of potentially building a future together, or can it still be more casual?

Since we haven’t met in person yet, I also don’t want to assume too much. I really like him, but I want to know whether we’re both looking at this as something that could become a serious long-term relationship.

I’d especially appreciate perspectives from Polish people or Europeans who are familiar with this dating culture.

I’m not asking whether I should stay with him or leave him. I’m simply trying to understand the cultural context and what “girlfriend” generally means in this situation.
