Java Backend Developer (3.5+ yrs, AML/Fintech) considering Saudi Arabia — how's the market? Any experience flying in for job search?

Hey everyone, I'm a Java Backend Developer based in Hyderabad, India with 3.5+ years of experience. My core stack is Java, Spring Boot, Microservices, REST APIs, IBM MQ, SQL Server, and I've been working in AML/anti-financial crime systems (Actimize ActOne/RCM) for a fintech client. I also hold AWS and Azure certifications. I'm seriously exploring opportunities in Saudi Arabia (Riyadh primarily, open to Jeddah/Dammam) and have a few questions for anyone who's been through this: On the job market: How is demand for Java/Spring Boot backend developers in Saudi right now? Is AML/fintech domain experience a strong differentiator there, or is it niche? Which sectors are most actively hiring — banking, telecom??

need some honest market inputs.

About me:

  • 3.5 years of experience
  • Current CTC: 4.5 LPA at a service based company
  • Domain: AML / Fintech – working on NICE Actimize ActOne/RCM platform for a US banking client
  • Core stack: Java, Spring Boot, Microservices, IBM MQ, SQL Server

What I want to know:

  1. What's a realistic CTC I should be targeting if I switch right now — both within India
  2. How should I plan my switch given the current job market — what roles should I target, should I upskill first, and what's the best timeline to aim for?
  3. Is the Actimize/AML niche a USP or a limiting factor when switching to product companies or general Java roles?

Any inputs from people who've made a similar move would really help. Thanks 🙏
