MKE AP5 Crown

I have an AP5 that's horrendously inaccurate (~16 MOA). I'm sure it's probably my ammo (Blazer 115gr) or the cheap claw mount for my optic, but it also has a pretty terrible crown. It seems like people are less concerned with crowns than they used to be, but this one is actually worse than the picture shows, and I'd like to fix it before I install a muzzle device (it came with just a thread protector).

My question: Can I get away with knocking this down with an 11° crown cutter, should I square it off at 90° first and then cut a recessed crown, or should I just cut a 90° crown and call it good since I'll be putting a muzzle device on it? Thank you in advance.

MKE AP5 Accuracy Found Wanting

I recently bought an MKE AP5. I've run about 300rds of Fiocchi 115gr through it without any issues so far. However, I recently put a Holosun 512 that I had sitting around on it, and while zeroing it off of a bag, I was pretty disappointed with the group sizes.

At 15yds, all the holes touched (not exactly surprising given the distanc), but when I took it out to 50yds, I was getting 8-12" 5rd groups. I recognize this is a Turkish clone of what's supposed to be a 4 MOA gun, but those groups seemed pretty large to me.

A few questions:

  1. Do you think I'll see noticeable improvement with 124gr ammo? I have an AR upper that will pull sub-MOA groups all day with 77gr SMKs, but then turns into a 4 MOA gun with cheap 55gr, and from what I understand the MP5 and its clones prefer 124gr ammo.

  2. I'm not sure how much it matters, but the crown on the barrel is not exactly pretty. Has anyone cut a new crown and seen a noticeable improvement in accuracy? I'm still deciding on a muzzle device, so right now it's just the thread protector on the muzzle.

  3. I have the MKE claw mount on it. Has anyone had issues with that mount having POI shifts?

I appreciate any input! Thank you.

I recently completed a work trip to Italy and noticed that a significant number of cars are still on snow tires, including in Rome, even though the weather has become too warm for their optimal performance compared to all-season or even summer tires.

Is it common in Italy to run snow tires all year, and if so, is that mostly because storing a second set of wheels and tires in areas with high population density is more challenging than paying for the increased wear of the tires during the summer?
