[Resident Evil 4] #79 - An amazing game, but damn S+ Professional doesn’t f*#k around!

With RE 2, 3 and 4 now behind me, ’m now halfway through my journey to platinum all 6 of the new/remade RE games.

Of the three I’ve played so far, this was without question the absolute best of them (and while 3 had its flaws, 2 is an absolutely stellar game in its own right).

This one ended up taking me 2 playthroughs and 40 hours. I started with an assisted run where I combined the no healing, pistols and knives only, not speaking to the merchant and no item boxes achievements. Even on assisted this proved quite difficult near the end of the game as your health only recovers to a point and you're limited to using non-upgraded pistols and knives.

After that I cleared mercenary mode to get access to the handcannon and jumped into my S+ Professional run, with the idea being I’d get S+ and all the difficulty trophies would stack. Now, while on this run I could heal, upgrade weapons and use the item box, S+ professional requires the game be completed in 5hrs 30mins of playtime with no more than 15 saves. In addition, as I was aiming to platinum in two runs, this meant obtaining all collectibles and doing all the merchant side quests as well.

While difficult, the hardest part was keeping to time, and it came down to the wire with only 14 mins and no saves to spare.

A big shoutout to the GOAT of guides Optinoob for helping me through the run!

Overall, I thought this game was brilliant, but after 40 hours I’m ready for a change of pace, so I’ve moved onto the much more relaxing RE 7. I’ll be sure to come back and play the DLC though once I’ve had a bit of a break!

[Resident Evil 3] #78 - A blood soaked, gore filled and enjoyable platinum. Now onto RE4!

Having just done RE2 and deciding to platinum all of the newer/remade RE games, the next stop on my journey was the RE3 remake.

I was able to knock this out in about 10 hours of playtime, with two runs. The first was a standard run where I got all collectibles and organically completed a few challenges.

The second was my Inferno run. Unlocking the defence, assault and health regeneration coins, along with the infinite rocket launcher from the shop I embarked on a blood soaked revenge tour of the game. Destroying everything in my path, I popped the remainder of the trophies and the platinum.

Now, onto the significantly longer and harder RE4 remake 😂

[Resident Evil 2] #77 - Well looks like I’m doing the whole RE series now.

Never having played a Resident Evil game before, I decided to give this a go just to see what everyone was talking about.

Damn, did this live up to the hype! I won’t go into any real detail as I’d just be repeating what countless others have said. What I will say is though, don’t make the same mistake I did and sleep on this game!

Onto Resident Evil 3 😀

[007 First Light] #76 - All killer, no filler from start to finish

Just finished 007 First Light and I loved my time with it. What IOI has put together is absolutely brilliant. The story, graphics and gameplay are all top notch. It feels like James Bond but just in another medium.

While it was only 20 hours to get the platinum, this was all killer and no filler, and I’d much rather 20 hours of brilliant gameplay than 80 hours of mediocre gameplay and grinding.

My butthole can finally unclench

Just wrapped the platinum on Outlast 2 a couple of hours ago, and what an experience these two games have been!

Being an Outlast subreddit I don’t need to tell you all why they’re so great 😁

Outlast 3 (whenever it comes out) will be a day one buy for me.

[Outlast 2] #75 - Needed to wear my brown pants to pick up this milestone platinum

Wanting to take on a challenge for my 75th platinum, so I thought I'd jump into Outlast 2, immediately after 100%ing Outlast 1 and the Whistleblower DLC.

Overall I really enjoyed my time with this one. It was a terrifying, gruesome, tense and challenging experience from start to finish. The developers clearly put a lot of love into this game, with the attention to detail in the environments being a key call out.

The platinum journey involved a playthrough on the hardest difficulty to learn the game and grab all the collectibles. Following that I did another run to make strategic saves on sections to practice ahead of the final permadeath run. I then spent a few hours practicing some particuarly nasty areas before jumping into the permadeath mode.

The permadeath run here is special as it has two trophies associated with it, the first being to just finish the game, and the second being to finish the game and NOT reload your camera battery. With this game largely being in the dark and the night vision on your battery draining fast, this adds a huge challenge to an already daunting task!

It ended up taking me five goes at the permadeath run before I got there. The first I died about halfway through the game by a stray arrow, then the other three deaths were because I was overconfident and rushing.

Finally on my fifth run I got into the zone and smashed this out over a couple of nights.

Such a great feeling getting this done! Next to Wolfenstein II, it's my proudest platinum so far

If you have any questions on the experience, drop a comment!

[Alien: Isolation] #73 - The most tense and terrifying video game I've ever played. Cannot wait for the sequel.

I'll preface this by saying please forgive the scattered nature of my thoughts here. I loved this game, and as I was typing, I remembered a few other things I liked and just dropped them in.

So, let's talk Alien: Isolation. In the 30 years since I first picked up a controller, this was without question the most and tense and terrifying video game I've ever experienced. In fact, the first time I picked I noped out within two hours. Fast forward a couple of years to where I found a pair and the determination to see this through, and I'm left with one of my best video game experiences to date.

With a style reminiscent of the original Alien film you spend a large portion of the game forever on the lookout for, avoiding and hiding from the Alien.

You cannot kill it. You cannot even outrun it. If it catches you, you're dead. If it spots you, you're probably going to be dead in a few seconds.

That's not to say that you don't have some tools at your disposal. You'll have a tracker, which can pick up movement around you and tell you how far it is/what direction it's coming from (this can be misleading though as it picks up all movement), and you'll also find items that you can use to distract or draw the Alien. You'll also get an item partway through that can be used to make it run away for a period (this has very limited ammo, so use it sparingly).

What's really impressive and in my mind elevates this above other horror games I've played is the game's AI. It has two distinct sets of AI operating simultaneously. The first is the Alien's AI. It genuinely doesn't know where you are, and has to rely on its own 'senses' to find you. It also 'learns'. For example, if you've used lockers to hide from it a few times, it will begin to search these more often for you. Additionally, with the exception of scripted encounters. The Alien doesn't cheat by teleporting. In any section of the game where the Alien has the potential to appear, even if it's not on screen it's somewhere on the map, moving around. This also means that no two runs are the same. If you die or reload a section, when and where the alien appears could and likely will be completely different to how you first experienced it. You can't assume that your next run will be the same, or watch a YouTube video beforehand, and think "Ok, it's going to jump out of that vent when I walk by that desk". It's much more random, and stressful.

The second is the Director AI, which knows exactly where the Alien is and where you are at any given time. To keep the intensity of the game balanced, the Director will often give the Alien a nudge as to what direction it should go to find you if you two haven't crossed paths in a bit. It will also tell the Alien to go back into the vents and head in another direction to ease the pressure once it thinks you've been appropriately terrified.

While the story was engaging and grounded, always leaving me to want to push on to find out what happened next, the gameplay was the real star here. It was incredibly tense, and had me on edge at almost all times. The mixture of gameplay, sound and music was spot on. I would often play once my wife and son had gone to bed, so I'd be in a dark room with the door shut. I also had surround sound for this, so hearing the direction was moving in took this to a whole other level. Additionally, the Alien often isn't the only threat with both hostile humans and androids roaming around in certain sections. For humans, the Alien can actually come in handy. A well placed noisemaker, can bring down the Alien who'll kindly wipe out your enemies and then disappear again (just be sure he doesn't see you too).

The overall platinum was a hard but rewarding challenge. Essentially you just needed to complete the game on hard (there is a Nightmare difficulty, but this was patched in post-launch so isn't required, but ti will still pop the trophy if you have the stomach), as well as do a no-death run. If you've got the stones and the patience you could combine the hard and no-death run.

The no-death run sounds harder than it is. If the Alien catches you, there's typically a 2-4 second window to pause and reload before the death is saved. I'll openly admit I used this, as there's some quite long levels in there with a lot of exposure to the Alien.

There were also some collectibles and a few miscellaneous trophies to get along the way, none of which were particularly onerous when using a guide.

My last trophy though was to have the Alien kill me 100 times, which led to probably my favourite platinum popping video to date!

I'd recommend this to anyone that loves a game that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I'll definitely be picking up the sequel when it eventually comes out.

If there's any questions, or any fellow Alien lovers, let me know!

An accurate representation of how my first play through is going

Currently completing my first playthrough and have never been in such a heightened state of awareness.

Absolutely loving it so far!

[Saros] #72 - Hot off the press: Saros is an excellent game. Meanwhile in other news, water is wet.

Like 99% of other people who played Saros I loved my time with it.

As someone who previously platinumed Returnal I had high hopes for Saros and I wasn’t dissapointed! The gameplay, story and visuals are all top notch.

It’s also much more accessible than Returnal with difficulty modifiers available early on. The platinum itself is also much more straightforward without the need to pick up dozens of RNG collectibles.

I won’t bother doing a full write up on my thoughts and experiences as I’d just be repeating what countless others have said.

[WWE 2K26] #71 - RKO everybody

As a big wrestling fan, this is my third year in a row getting the platinum for the WWE 2K series.

At this point I think it may be my last though unfortunately. With 2K significantly ramping up the difficulty on the MyFaction matches (to the point where it crosses the line from a challenge to needlessly unfair) along with the introduction of several RNG-based trophies, I found that by the end this platinum it became more of a grind than anything else.

I hope 2K hear the feedback of their audience and balance out MyFaction next year (and assuming they do, I’ll be happy to pick up the next one).

I’ve had a look around and not been able to find anything so I’m taking this as a long shot.

Does anyone know if this been repped previously or there are plans to do it in the future?

Thanks!
