Hey everyone, I'm curious as to what you all think the biggest factor for readers dropping comics in its early chapters is. Whether it be the art, the dialogue, or the story itself, please let me know your thoughts :D
For context, I run Toon Pilot Research, and handle early reader retention, and insights for webcomics. I love data, so I'm curious as to what everyone thinks!
The two main bits of feedback that our reader group highlighted were
- The story moves too fast for readers to connect with characters
- Character Clarity, where several readers had trouble telling the characters apart
The author has an amazing story concept, and they could reach the stars by fixing these two points. <3
We got full permission from the author to share these results. Please give Princess of the Steppe a read on WEBTOON if you love yourself a historical fantasy!

Hey everyone,
I run Toon Pilot Research, a platform that matches webcomics with a focus group of readers. We read and review webcomic pilots, with the goal of helping creators find gaps in their stories based on reader experience.
We do both free reviews to support small creators, as well as reviews where you get paid per review you make (A review typically takes 10-15 minutes)
If you're interested in joining a growing community of webtoon and manga fans, that help shape future work; either send us a message on Reddit, or contact us on our website (https://toonpilotresearch.com/#reviewer)
Thanks 😄

Firstly I’d like to mention that I’m not a professional by any means, just someone who enjoys creating webcomics.
I was recently looking to rework the first three chapters of my webcomic ‘Tunnels’ because I felt like my writing & art had improved quite a bit from when I first started—but I had no clue on WHAT to focus on improving. That’s when I came across the toon pilot review page on instagram. They were a team comprised of researchers & beta readers who gave detailed analyses on people’s webcomics. Initially I was a bit sketched out because it sounded wayyy too good to be true—and I’ve had a few bad experiences in the past—but I decided to try it out and after receiving their review I realized they were in fact the real deal.
They sent me a detailed review on art, story, pacing, etc. They were also super communicative & kind throughout our entire interactions. Whether the review turned out good or bad, they make sure to double check with me before publicly posting the review.
If you’re interested you should definitely check them out^^
I also included some of the panels I redrew post-review 🙂↕️
