I find it really hard to decide between heavy and light metro on a lot of maps, especially the very spread out (American) ones. Take Portland for example; there's some spots that a heavy metro might feel warranted, but in my experience oftentimes a heavy metro doesn't even reach 15% usage in sprawled cities. On the other hand, a light metro at some point often overcrowds and has very limited expansion ability in terms of capacity.

I feel like we need a light metro with longer trains.

How do you usually decide between heavy and light metro when starting out your build on maps that don't clearly need heavy metro?

Titel. Ik woon al 13 jaar op mezelf, heb nog nooit een maand huur gemist, nooit problemen gehad. Ik heb tot nu toe altijd geluk gehad met het vinden van woningen waarbij geen inkomstengrens gold.

Ik ben inmiddels naarstig op zoek naar mijn volgende woning, en natuurlijk komen de befaamde inkomstenverklaringen dan om de hoek kijken: je moet aantoonbaar minstens 3, 4 of zelfs 5 keer de huurprijs verdienen om in aanmerking te komen. Die getallen zijn sowieso belachelijk, maar ik snap dat je als verhuurder een bepaalde zekerheid wilt hebben. Naast dat ik als ZZP'er die inkomsteneisen niet steevast elke maand haal, is het als ZZP'er ook nog eens zeer prijzig om zoiets zwart op wit officieel te krijgen.

Maar, ik heb technisch gezien 13 jaar aan bankafschriften paraat met bijbehorende oude huurcontracten om aan te tonen dat ik al 13 jaar trouw mijn huur betaal. Ik vind het bizar dat zoiets dus niet de zekerheid kan bieden die het duidelijk wel aantoont.

Edit: mooi om te zien dat een handjevol mensen het schrijnende van deze situatie inzien, maar de rest heeft inderdaad gelijk: alleen de mensen met het hoogst bewijsbare inkomenen verdienen een dak boven hun hoofd in dit land. De rest heeft pech (aka staat jarenlang op de wachtlijst voor sociale huur) terwijl je prima de huren in het middensegment betrouwbaar kunt betalen. Maar helaas: je bent minder financieel betrouwbaar dan kandidaat B dus geen dak boven je hoofd voor jou!

How is the situation concerning using 3rd party apps to use Proton services with? I'm deliberating whether to keep my Proton subscription for another year and things aren't looking pretty concerning the quality and rate of improvement of their own apps.

I'm completely fed up with the Proton Mail app's inadequate search function; everything's been indexed yet it's completely incapable of finding mails by fragmented body texts, only literal search strings sometimes work. Can we use Proton Mail in another mail app that's able to index everything properly? I honestly don't care about the privacy part of Proton, it's the all-in-one, European and pricing part that I care about. I'd happily let any other mail client of my preference index every nook and cranny of my mailbox.

Same thing goes for Calendar; there's still not search function (absolutely essential) and the iOS app has very annoying bugs and a delay when saving events, which makes it a headache to input multiple events one after the other. I'd love to use a different Calendar app with Proton's services.

The only reason I'm still with Proton is that it's the only all-in-one option for personal cloud services that's not either crazy expensive or owned by evil people/USA companies. But at this point things have become quite unbearable with the total lack of apparent improvement over the last year for basic functions in their essential services.
