From the Massdrop grave: Vortex sidelit doubleshot PBT keycaps
Keychron Q3 TKL w/knob
Glorious Raptor clicker switches
Vortex sidelit doubleshot PBT keycaps
According to my notes, this was one of the last group buys before Massdrop became Drop (RIP). I originally got the set to upgrade the Varmilo VA87 as the orange LEDs were south-facing (also a Massdrop group buy circa 2015).
Question regarding this Vortex set: it was listed as an OEM profile, but the top row has a taller profile than the number row. Is this something unique to Vortex so you can easily view the sidelit legends along that row? I picked up an el cheapo set of XVX sidelit caps from Amazon (also listed as OEM) and that set's top row was the standard height.
In my relatively short time with the hobby I found I've outgrown tactile switches and find linear switches not to my liking as they skew too close to stock membrane keyboards for my fingers. I'm growing older and my keyboard/mouse gaming skills are headed down the drain so I don't have a use for hypersensitive linear switches. Which effectively means I'm going all in with clickers.
Which brings me to Glorious Raptor switches. Yes, they do deserve some criticism for their overpricing and garish marketing but I think I've found a new favorite clicker switch surpassing my longtime workhorse MX greens. They have the ideal feedback that will keep me entertained while typing reports away at the office and the audible response reminds me of a bowl of Rice Krispies with milk freshly poured over them. The keycap/switch combination has almost zero ping on the stock Q3 barebones.
Weird that I've not seen Vortex bring this set back for sale as I really like the legends they used here. Their toplit shinethrough PBT set (which I also ordered from Massdrop) used butt-ugly legends.
