There's no way this doesn't make a billion dollars even if it's bad

Entertainment news website Deadline reported on Monday that David Derrick Jr. (Moana 2) and John Aoshima (Ultraman: Rising) are co-directing Warner Brothers and New Line Cinema's planned live-action/animation hybrid film of Sanrio's Hello Kitty character.

Ramsey Naito will also join the film as a producer with Beau Flynn.

The film will open worldwide on July 21, 2028.

Sanrio, New Line Cinema, and Warner Bros. Pictures Animation are producing the film, which will also have other Sanrio characters besides Hello Kitty.

Bandai Namco Filmworks board director and producer Naohiro Ogata announced during the "Gundam Conference Spring 2026" livestream event on Friday that the Mobile Suit Gundam Wing franchise is getting a "new visual project." When the host Hisanori Yoshida noted a visual project could be anything from a 10-second clip to a two-hour film or a 50-episode series, Ogata stated, "I can't say what the format is yet, but it is definitely something long." (The original Japanese term in the announcement, "eizō," is an umbrella term for screen projects including but not limited to event shorts, home video releases, theatrical films, and television series.)

As of today I have finished Rilla of Ingleside, ending my year and a long affair with these books. In the last year and a half I have read all 8 books and watched 15 different adaptations of the series and I want to now write down what these books have meant to me. As I write this, the ending theme of the 2025 anime adaptation of Anne Shirley "Heart" by Laura Day Romance plays in the background.

The various soundtracks of the animes live in my everyday life now and I fondly hear them as I move about my day. When I'm stressed out or sad I like to pull them on to cheer me up.

I was scared to let these characters and feelings go. But just as Anne left her Avonlea, I must also move forward. The journey was the important part not the destination.

The last year was a dark time for me. In the darkness there was not much to hold onto. With all of my free time I've accumulated, I thought it no better a time to read a series I often have had in the back of my mind for decades. Ever since I heard the words "Anne of Green Gables," I knew someday I would read it for some reason.

When I began this journey I never figured I would grow so attached to these stories. I laughed, I cried, I shouted and I contemplated life as I took a passenger seat through Anne's life. I find myself mimicking Anne, unconsciously taking deep breaths of air and just allowing myself time to bask in nature everytime I step outside.

It's really helped me ground myself.

The series helped me appreciate people again and not just to tolerate them. We can say what we want about the people in these books but there's no denying how human the writing is. Each time I'm introduced to characters I thought to myself: "Will I end up mourning this one too?"

It's opened up my heart again to the world and I really do cherish it forever for this. It's gotten me out of so many slumps and brought so much joy to my world.

Now when people ask for suggestions on things to cheer them up, I naturally gravitate towards suggesting Anne now. I think we could all use a little room for romantic imagination.

In the future I plan to read The Blythe's are quoted and also get a tattoo commemorating this part of my life.
