I finally got my 26 Kona Sport, but why do I feel ick about it.
So I did it, I finally got my 2026 Kona (only 15 miles on it)! I should be celebrating but my experience at the dealership was so weird I feel uneasy about it. I went knowing that I could get a SE, but was hoping to get a good deal on a Sport SEL. I did a ton of research and I knew what to expect, but the dealership kept lying to me. Is this normal?
When we 1st were looking at the Kona Sports on the lot he came over and we were talking and he started talking about the light bar and said all models had the light all the way across. We actually got into a little heated back and forth cause I knew it wasn't true. He said I was looking at last yrs models cause all the 26's fully light up. He said he had been working at hyundai for 10 yrs and knew what he was talking about. Later as we were making the deal and waiting i showed my husband online that I was right it didnt light up all the way, he came out and got ... weird about it.
Later i changed the car cause i wanted the black interior and he pulled up a car that had the silver door plates with blue "kona" logos on them and he said that they light up at night. I looked closer and it was obviously a metal sticker with no lights attached. I told him that and he said he ment the blue writing was glow in the dark. I knew that was a lie immediately and just said yeah i dont think it does. Spoiler it does NOT glow in the dark or light up.
Then after we bought the car he made a really quick statement about the car having myq garage, and we have one at home for our other car so i didn't think much of it, except when i spent 20 mins trying to set it up today only to realize he lied about that too. (There were other features he lied about which i knew about but you get the picture). It just kinda ruined my experience on getting the car.
Why would a sales guy lie about features the car doesn't have? Wouldn't it make more sense to put me in a premium trim and show me the features and up sell me. Why keep telling me the sport has features it doesn't?
I'm happy to have my Kona Sport and i'm happy I did research before going, but it just left a bad taste in my mouth. Part of me wants to return it just to tell the guy the car has none of the features he said it did.
TL;DR:
the sales guy lied about features the Kona Sport SEL does not have. I knew he was lying because I research the car before I went. But it left a bad taste in my mouth. One side of me loves the car and wants to keep it. The other side wants to return it just because he lied.
