Pollinators at work in my oregano
I have 5 patches of oregano around my property and I always allow one or two to go to seed. They're excellent for bringing in bees and other pollinators of all shapes and sizes. Bonus points for being low maintenance and it spreads easily if you're looking for a border or ground cover plant.
Eastern US power grid operator orders emergency curbs as electricity use nears record
U.S. power grid operator PJM, the nation's largest covering much of the East Coast and Midwest, on Friday ordered customers in emergency alert to curb their use, as it battled generator outages, overloaded transmission lines and surging air-conditioning demand during a prolonged heat wave.
PJM Interconnection, which manages the electricity system serving 67 million people in 13 states and the District of Columbia, has issued emergency energy alerts amid expectations that hot summer weather will drive up power demand.
The 13 states are Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.
Fireflies are poppin' off in my backyard
I have fond memories of chasing after lightning bugs during 4th of July barbecues as a kid. We'd put them in jars with screw on lids punctured with air holes so they'd survive the evening. Funny how I don't remember if they ever did. It's a joy every year to see them return to my area of central Delaware and I see they're right on time! Thought I'd share. 💜

Lettuce is twirling & dancing to celebrate a successful harvest season 🥳 🥬
Sometimes plants just *tell* you when they're done. This year I've noticed my romaine twirling in the same direction which must have a biological reason behind it. If you know, please share your knowledge. Or just enjoy my romaine twirling and dancing after a great harvest season. Looking forward to collecting the seeds for next year! Does your lettuce twirl before it bolts?
Tell me you have SBV without telling me you have SBV
2nd zucchini down so far this year. Treating with DE when it doesn't rain. Luckily I have planted in other areas of my garden but still disappointing since it's the only plant fruiting right now. Please commiserate with me.
Missing dog in Sussex / Millsboro / Indian Summer Village
Hi all, my dog Bernie has been missing since the 4th. This is the first time he's ever disappeared. He's a 8lb caramel colored Chihuahua. He is super friendly but will run if chased (and 0% chance you will catch him). If you see him please report to animal control and/or DM me here.
He's been spotted twice near Cordrey Road and the Seventh Day Adventist church there. We have been laying out scented clothing, food, and staked out areas for hours. Any information is welcome.
Thank you very much.

Chipdrop in Delaware - 2 day wait after failed first attempt
I ordered a chipdrop and the first arborist charged me then never delivered. Refunding by Chipdrop was easy and I quickly placed another order. Two days later, a drop showed up. It wasn't dumped in the exact location I requested (with pictures), but for the $20 I spent I'm overjoyed. Nice mixture of pine, maple, magnolia, and cedar. I've found some already decomposing leaf litter in the pile as well. Really impressed with this service. Photos of my drop. My JackChi puppy, Molly, and the golf net set up in our yard for size reference. I have no idea how much I actually received but it's going to keep me busy for quite awhile.
