Who has decided that slabs are cool? They are pointless

I recetly got back in the hobby when the pokemon craze was at his peak. I had stopped collecting due to the extremely low pull rates in Evolving Cries Skyes, but, aside from the occasional pack, I came back thanks to Black Bolt and White Flare.

I couldn't help but notice how the people were obsessed with owning graded cards in slabs. Ngl, I find that really odd. Like, you're just spending more money to get the card graded when the only difference between that and a simple rigid cover is lable assigned by PSA. Like, does it really make it better if you're just planning to keep it as a decorative piece?

Edit: Thank you to anyone who has taken the time to comment under this post and discuss (nicely) the pros and cons. It was very informative and I got some really cool insight on the current state of the market and tips for future collecting. <3

I steuggle a lot with soft and hard shadows, so any tip is more than welcome.
Hair volume is also a big issue for me, bc I struggle to render it with lighting, so that doesn't help.
