Cirqa at the office

For me the main reason to purchase a Cirqa was to be able to track recovery within the Garmin ecosystem while being able to wear a regular watch.

Online there seems to be an ongoing debate about the ‘bulkiness’ of the Cirqa so maybe this is helpful to some of you.

Here’s a photo of the Cirqa in Captain Blue on an 18cm circumference wrist. This is as much of the band as you’ll see while wearing a slim fitted shirt. As shown the band fits nicely under the cuff. It’s very light so I don’t really notice it. If I put my hand down or while typing you don’t see the band.

Daily wear

For people wondering about the ‘bulkiness’ here’s a closeup shop of the Circa at work. Fits perfectly under a shirt cuff (slim fitted). If I put my hand down you don’t see it. Same with typing etc.

Blue is looking great

Got the only blue in stock. Delivery date from Garmin 5-8 weeks.

Finally able to wear my automatic watches and track data within the Garmin ecosystem. The band isn’t as big as everyone seems to be worried about. I have 18cm circumference wrists.

Friend(ly) advice - running on average 1x per week

Hi everyone,

===

TL;DR: My best friend wants to run his first marathon while averaging only one 8 km run per week. I’m worried and looking for advice.

===

My best friend (39M) challenged me to run the Amsterdam Marathon with him on October 18.

I’m an endurance athlete who trains for triathlons. I’ve completed an Ironman, have several 70.3 races planned this year, and finished in the top 10% of my age group at my national half-distance championships. Because of that, I know my perspective on training may be more conservative than most.

My friend, on the other hand, recently became the father of two young children. Between work, family life, and interrupted sleep, his fitness has understandably declined. He wanted a big goal to get back into shape, so he picked a marathon.

The problem is that with just over three months to go, he’s still convinced he’ll not only finish but also break four hours. According to his Strava, he’s averaging about one run per week, usually around 8 km.

I’m genuinely concerned that he’s setting himself up for injury or a very unpleasant race experience. At the same time, I realize I may be looking at this through the lens of someone who trains much more than the average recreational runner.

If you were in my position, what advice would you give him? Would you encourage him to adjust his goal (or even postpone the marathon), or is a sub-4 first marathon still realistic from this starting point?
