Can a truck driver get a CDL again after a heart attack and stents?

My dad has been a truck driver most of his life, but everything changed after he suffered a heart attack on March 19 and had multiple stents placed. Since then he has been unable to work and eventually lost stable housing.

Right now he’s trying to survive week to week while waiting on Social Security/unemployment assistance, and we’re trying to help him eventually get into an apartment because motel costs are impossible to sustain long term.

I wanted to ask other drivers here, after a heart attack and stent placement, is it realistically possible to get a CDL medical card again and return to trucking eventually? Has anyone here gone through this process themselves?

He wants to work again someday if his health allows it, but right now we honestly don’t know what the future looks like.

This has been devastating for him mentally because trucking was his entire life for many years.

If anyone has advice, experience, resources, or even encouragement, I would deeply appreciate it. And if anyone wants to help us keep him housed while he recovers, I can also share the fundraiser link privately or in the comments if allowed.

Thank you for reading.

PLS DELETE IF NOT ALLOWED: Desperate times.

My father is a truck driver who recently became homeless after losing his income and falling behind financially due to a heart attack and stent surgery. Right now he’s staying week-to-week in a motel in Oklahoma City that costs $250 every week, and it’s draining everything we’re able to raise just to keep him off the streets.

He’s actively trying to get back on his feet while waiting on unemployment and other assistance, but the motel costs are making it almost impossible to move forward.

The goal now is not just temporary survival — we’re trying to raise enough to help him move into a small cheap apartment so he has a stable place to recover, rest, and rebuild instead of spending hundreds every week on a motel room.

He has food from the food bank and his medications are covered for now, but housing remains the biggest challenge.

If anyone is willing to help, share, or even just offer advice/resources for homeless truckers or emergency housing assistance, we would truly appreciate it.

Hi everyone, I’d like to share Tim’s story.

Tim recently had a heart attack and surgery and is still not cleared to return to work. Due to delays in donations, he briefly ended up living in his car but is now back in a motel. Unfortunately, the $250 weekly cost is hard to maintain with no income.

He has applied for Social Security and unemployment, but both will take about two months to process. In the meantime, he’s receiving food support from Together We Church.

Our main goal is to raise enough to help him move into a small, affordable apartment where he can rest and recover until he can get back on his feet by May 20.

If you can help or share his fundraiser, or if anyone here could give him a part time job it would mean a lot.

I’m posting on behalf of Timothy Armstrong — a truck driver of 40 years and a very dear family friend.

Tim has spent most of his life on the road, working hard to provide and support himself. But everything changed on March 19th when he suffered a heart attack caused by a blocked artery. He had to undergo emergency surgery, where doctors placed three stents in his heart to save his life.

Since then, he hasn’t been medically cleared to return to work. And like many hardworking people, when the income stops, everything else quickly follows.

Tim had been staying at the cheapest motel he could find in Oklahoma City, paying $250 weekly just to have a place to rest while recovering. He did everything he could to stay afloat — even borrowing from online loan apps — but he has now run out of options.

Unfortunately, due to delays in GoFundMe processing, the donations didn’t come in time to cover his rent. As of April 23, Tim has had to move out of the motel, clean out his room, and is now living in his car while trying to recover from heart surgery.

Our hope is to raise enough to help Tim get into a small, affordable apartment — somewhere safe where he can properly rest and heal until he’s able to get back on his feet and return to work by May 20.

Any amount, no matter how small, would mean the world right now. Let’s help give him a place to recover with dignity during this incredibly difficult time.

Thank you to anyone willing to lend a hand to someone who has spent his life working hard on the road.
