Moving to SF, need to find a great espresso place

Hello,

As expensive as the Bay Area in CA is, my two indulgences will be going out for beers and espresso. Please send me your favorite/best spots for an espresso in the Bay area. I love this sub

Edit: the coffee scene in SF is remarkably worse than Seattle’s. No argument.

Moving across country, long term stay and the host just changed my reservation 4 days out [CA]

Hello,

I am relocating for a new job in a very high COL and competitive city and had booked a 3 month stay with an airbnb host 2 months ago. I am halfway through my cross country road trip, with all my belongings in my car and the host just changed the reservation to a different property. From what I can tell, the host has multiple properties in the city and has moved me from a queen to a double, smaller premise, and further out.

I am very stressed out now and not sure what can be done. Can I try to get some of these additional cleaning fees (100 a month) or utility fees (300 in total) waived? They were not in the original listing, but he insists they are mandatory across all properties. It is impossible for me to cancel and find another place to stay at this point. This sucks, Im really scared now.

Where to park around Sign Hill/Downtown overnight

Hello,
I am moving to the area and staying in an Airbnb near downtown SF for a while. I will have a car with me and am wondering if there is free street parking that can accommodate my car overnight and for extended periods (weeks)? Any insight?

New Employee Question about Benefits

Hello all,

I am starting a new gs7 position in August with USDA and I am curious to learn more about the benefits. I will be under my parents healthcare plan for the first year but I have read that federal employees can have their gym membership and transit commute reimbursed through special programs. Has anyone received this? If so how do you qualify/enroll?

Any other fun benefits I should know about?

Looking for sublet starting in October (1,500 budget + would like parking)

Hello,

My name is Matthew, I am moving from the East Coast (NJ/NY/MA) to the Bay Area to begin a job with the USDA in August.

A little about me:
I studied Plant Sciences and am looking forward to learning from some of the top ag professionals in CA. Outside of work, I am excited to experience the amazing cultures, food, and diversity offered in the area. Inside I enjoy cooking, watching older foreign films, listening to music, reading, studying at the library, and drinking tea. Outside, I love to walk around, observe flora and fauna, I hope to pick up running and the gym, trying new restaurants, catching a play/concert, and striking up a conversation with whoever.

What I am looking for:
As I explore the Bay, I am hoping to find a sublet to rest at. My budget is $1,500 + utilities and while I will have a car, I want to be checking out the public transit options available. I love to try new things and get to know my roommates, but am happy to respect peoples privacy and be a quiet roomie. I will not have any pets and a non-smoker. I will be moving pretty lightly so furnished rooms would be a good fit, but I can make do. Ideal areas I would like to be in are South San Francisco, Oakland [Jack London Square to 19th st], San Bruno, San Mateo, and Mill Brae.

Commuting to Oyster Point

Hello,

I was offered a job in Oyster Point and I am looking for some neighborhoods/towns that have a good access via public transit. Ideally sticking to 1 line of transport to reduce costs. With my gf, we are looking to stay in the 2200-2500/month range.

So far it seems like San Bruno, SSF, Downtown Oakland are my top towns to look in. In SF Proper I am considering right above Tenderloin, Mission District, Vistacion Valley. Any other suggestions?

I would also love to hear feedback on commuting from Oakland to Oyster point via Ferry or BART? Is that reasonable or too unreliable to show up on time everyday?

Feel free to share experiences living around the Tenderloin as that is a big knowledge gap for me.

Finding an apartment in South SF while across the country

Hi, i was recently offered an entry level job (60-65k annual) I am really interested in. While I am still ironing out details before accepting, the big thing is moving to a place I have never been across the country. Do you have any advice on blindly moving to SF/renting an apartment with random roommates?

Im hoping to live nearby the BART line, as my potential fiancé (if she joins) needs public transit access.

Thanks!
