Welp the saga continues

A while back I posted about a massive hole forming in the side of my bolt on my 585 mini. After taking everything into consideration it went in for RMA. Turned into a 2 month headache and because my FFL sent it ruger would not speak to me. Had to have my ffl call them repeatedly and ask to add me as a point of contact. Finally the tech calls me and says he’s not happy with it and is putting it in for full replacement. 3 weeks later he calls says he’s test fired it cleaned it up and it’s ready to go.

A week later I get it and immediately go home clp the shit out of it and go to the range. I recently posted about getting it back and how it jammed several times during the first 30 rounds but then the next 50-70 it started to cooperate and said I would follow up.

Well it continues to fail to extract and or fail to eject about every 3-5 rounds. Tries to feed the spent cartridge resulting in a double feed and refuses to fling out the cartridge when it does manage to grab it. Went home and tried to clean it again and use some snap back dummy rounds manually pulling back and it won’t even eject those. Called ruger and they said to clp and lube the bolt and extractor and check for machining burrs or anything blocking it. Just did all that am going back to the range. I’m seriously not a happy customer right now.

Mini’s back after 2 months

A while back i posted about a hole in the side of my bolt. Had to send my new 585 out for a RMA. Took nearly 2 months for it to end up being a full rifle replacement. What a headache. Just glad to have one back even tho it’s not the one i sent in. Somewhere inside i feel let down. Fired off 100 rounds yesterday to break it in, had a few jams but I think it’s good now….i think

Went to my local range to enjoy my second amendment rights and found another egg enjoying their liberty as well. Is the redsun in the group with us?

“Cool story bro”

I was showing some of my mask to my friends and when I told them the story about how I got my hands on this s10 back in the early 2010s they said it was actually a pretty interesting story which made me think this bunch might find this interesting.

I’ve always loved the s10 as it was prominent in all of my favorite type of movies and games. Resident evil, dead rising, 28 days later, call of duty modern warfare etc so it’s naturally a mask I’ve always wanted but in the early 2000s they were very hard to get as they were still govt issue so your best bet was eBay but that was when eBay was sketchy.

Anyway I got out of the army around 2012 and got a job as a chimney sweep and that turned into a full time career. My employer had a contract with Peke safety which is essentially the civil side of Avon. I was at a trade show in Pennsylvania and went over to the Peke safety booth and was talking with a British fellow behind the booth about their power active papr cap/hard hat and was sold so I got one for sweeping fireplaces. I asked since he was British if he associated with the Avon side of things and he had a pretty cool story. He essentially was transferred to the US office to work out of the 3m/avon plant at the Cadillac facility in Detroit and was the guy who went around to police departments demoing the Avon mask as a sales rep trying to get the depts to go with Avon gear. He has this S10 as his demo/trainer and when they eventually switched to the fm12 and later fm50 series he had no use for it so it just sat in his locker at the Cadillac plant.

I went on about 28 days later and other media that featured the mask and he could tell I was a gear nerd and asked if I wanted to get my hands on his s10, of course I jumped with excitement. Problem was Avon still cannot sell to the public and it was still registered to Avon so I asked my boss to fill out a sale order for “training aids” and the British fellow was able to list the mask as a “demo” training sale” and shipped it to my employer from his office. I took it home and cleaned it up and it’s been pretty much my pride and joy mask ever since.

I think I might be one of the only American civilians to get a S10 direct from Avon right out of their facility to my door under a contract. Being a demo trainer it’s in extremely good condition and has virtually no wear other than the back rubber straps showing some cracking from age. It’s a size 2.

Anyway hope yall enjoyed my ramblings.
