How safe is it for women in Southern Iraq? Basra/Baghdad specifically? Question

I keep seeing videos of women being chased by men in Baghdad and there was that incident that happened to that girl when she went outside. I don't want to panic but I want to hear from Iraqi women what it's like there before I go to Basra in the future inshallah.

Does anybody else ship Gramma and Vasquez?

I feel like they fit as a couple really well. Would Vasquez put his job aside and date though? And would Gramma want someone other then Ernest?

The discourse surrounding khaleegy when a certain Cheeto went to Abu Dhabi really bothered me.

This is the khaleegy dance that the background dancers are doing btw they look gorg in their dresses and they're so beautiful 💜💜

If you don't want to read the story below no pressure 👍🏽

If you didn't see when he who shall not be named went to Abu Dhabi and that was a lot of people's first introduction to khaleegy.

Instead of asking people from the culture what dance it was it got memed into oblivion and people said the girls looked possessed and it was scary. I got flashbacks to white kids saying my food at lunch as a kid was smelly and that was the same energy the dance got in my opinion.

Just to be clear khaleegy isn't my favorite dance I find it simple but I also find it beautiful I'm half Emirati so I grew up doing this dance at family gatherings. It's elegant in my eyes and I know everyone won't agree or share my opinion but people were disrespectful and meming someone's culture especially with something like dance is always a jerk move.

I have a cousin who is black American and we recently met in the past three years we never knew each other existed but we're the same age basically and she loves dancing too. I showed her the dances of West Asian culture she was so respectful and now lives them as much as I do. We live far away from each other but she dances Kawliya and shaabi even better than me now. She cared to learn and approached the culture with a healthy curiosity instead of looking at it like a spectacle. She researched about them even more than what I told and showed her also.

The Internet is free and has connected so many people across countries there's no excuse for people with access to the Internet and so much educational resources to have such a weird adittude towards other cultures dances.

P.S. the leaders in the Gulf can choke on a fat one but that's a post for another sub.

This is a legendary video that got me started doing Kawliya and by extension bellydance because I finally found the confidence by watching these women.

This is from a DVD that showed a dance session called Jalsat Iraqiyah or Iraqi sessions in English. The dancer in red who stole the show is Juana Al Aseel professionally but her real name is Bushra Rashid allegedly. She has inspired me beyond measure to learn these dances and I hope this makes your day a little sweeter. Dance on ladies💜⭐

P.S. she also demonstrated Kawliya does not in fact require long hair 😌

Does anybody else feel like no one really understands the art, athleticism, and practice that goes into bellydance, khaleegy, Kawliya etc.?

These dances are always labeled weird, sexual, and ugly whenever I try and show people even though I'm trying to help other women find the same healing I did through these dances especially Kawliya.

I dance mainly in dresses like jalabiyyas and the dresses Iraqi women wore for Jalsat Iraqiyah which are some legendary videos I'll post here later. Anyway I live in Texas and people in my city either line dance or stand on the wall. If it's a good day maybe some traditional Mexican dances but there's no room for bellydance in my city really unless it's hypersexualized or in the bra and skirt outfit. No offense to those outfits they're really beautiful.

I just wish I could find other women who appreciate the art and want to have a dance party just to dance not to drink or smoke or try and look good but dance simply from a place without judgement of each other or the dances and music.

These filters are ridiculous they flag regular messages with 18 plus characters. Is it just me or are these filters really sensitive?

I got flagged for talking about a character cheating lmao.

I keep getting caught in situations that look entirely different then what they are.

People keep catching me in situations that look like I'm doing something wrong but I know I'm not doing anything wrong but if I defend myself I look guilty😭😭😕
