Help me understand how machines are smarter than they seem

New guy, first playthrough this weekend.

My question: Things like inserters are way smarter than I would have assumed. I didn't know I can put a bunch of different stuff in a box and the inserter will only pull out the exact thing the target assembler needs. The inserter only pulls the right amounts too to not "starve" downline stuff. SO, I'm wondering if there's other stuff like this in the game unexplained and unintuitive.

Just now finding out I can have multiple inserters pulling from a box with several items to put into different assemblers was kind of mind blowing. I'm trying to avoid tutorials or how to vids too much, but I think I would have assumed the inserter wasn't so smart and never utilized this on my own

Dead biters and Destroyed gun turrets?

Hey guys, first playthrough and maybe my defenses kind of suck, but I have all these dead biters and broken gun turrets in my base. Like tons of gun turrets that got swarmed and now can't be repaired and are just visual clutter. Dead biters also clutter. I hate the mess and can't see what gun turret is working still or is just an old broken one half the time. Any way to just clear up all this crap laying around? I saw something about console commands but that can't be what everyone does right?

EDIT: Thanks a lot guys! I can just use belts to put down and delete then tear the belts down. I HAVE to get used to the idea that putting things down and then just removing them costs nothing. My brain has trouble accepting that

First playthrough mindset question

So, I just finished the tutorial and learned a ton, but realized as I completed it how inefficient a lot of my stuff was.

My question is, when you guys started out, did you play awhile, realize your setup was shit, then just restart completely? Or is it better to struggle through, then just nuke the crappy setup once you have better ideas?

I'm trying to decide before I start how long I can expect to be stuck with my mistakes as I learn. It seems pretty forgiving that you can just destroy any structure and get all resources refunded to put it down more efficiently, so is that what you guys do?

I think the chaos and mess of tutorial 5 spooked me a bit on not wanting to live in a shitty rubble zone

EDIT: Wow! You guys are all so helpful and inviting! I feel like I'm being lured into a cult or getting my first free taste from a group of friendly crack dealers :) Thanks for all this!!!

Custom avatars?

So my custom avatar just disappeared. I saw a lot of other people with blank circles above their names too. I'm assuming there was some issue and all these custom avatars were deleted?

I actually don't know where I had found mine and loved it. So, am I just out of luck or are those coming back somehow?

The button to show leaderboards, along with your points, rank, and prize in each won't show anything. Is there a way to fix this? I've had the issue in years past too

I haven't played in quite awhile. I load up the game and it starts me in the crashed ship. I have several things that say to press Y to interact (like the hole to leave the ship). Pressing Y does nothing. No buttons do anything. I honestly just want to restart the game entirely, but that's not even an option.

Sucks. I liked the game and now it's like it is impossible to either start over or continue this save. What am I doing wrong?

EDIT: Restarted and it kept happening. Ended up being that if I didn't disable steam input controller settings, the triangle and LB buttons just didn't work. Not sure why. Never seen that before. It now works, thanks guys

For example: there are "Phase-L: $5 Omaholic Festival" type tournaments that are listed as World Festival and grant a Title badge to the winner. However, they are not numbered and do not have all four levels of buyin represented.
Can someone confirm/deny if these have leaderboard implications, as this will determine if I grind them.
Thank you

I think Amazon calls it Whispersync where you get the Audible narration book and the same book in the ebook Kindle version. Then the narrator reads it to you as the Kindle highlights the words.
I cannot find Spanish versions of books that have this option. Anyone have any? I'd really like to give it a try for a fun way to learn.

Also, ChatGPT said Harry Potter books had this and I see they have the kindle and the audible version, but no indication they would do the sync feature.

Any help would be awesome
