We are visiting the Dolomites in mid-August to hike to Rifugio Auronzo and see Lago di Braies. We plan to use only public transport. Is Dobbiaco the best base, or are there more budget-friendly towns nearby that aren't as expensive as Cortina? Also, are there local tourist websites we should use to book transport and find accommodation?

Hi everyone,

My friends and I are planning a trip to the Dolomites in late August. We were thinking of using Ortisei as our base and staying in a hostel or hotel, but everything there seems really expensive.

Are there any nearby towns we could consider staying in that are more affordable? We’ll be relying on public transport, so good connectivity is important.

Thanks in advance!
