Absolutely stunning stuff to be honest, a rare example of proper investigative journalism by the mainstream media.

Bethesda is sending DMCA notices to a Ukrainian fighting the war in the frontlines to take down a classic (Fallout 1/2) engine emulator which doesn't use game files, ROMs, game code, textures, or music (you have to own the game to use it).

So, there's a FO2.exe app for Android which has been developed by some Ukrainian guy. He's now literally in the trenches at the frontlines - in the heat of it. And Bethesda lawyers said "Fuck it, let's come after some small-time tool developer who didn't rip any assets or use our IP in any way other than enabling LEGAL OWNERS of the CLASSIC (FO1 is 30 years next year) to play this game on their Android phones/tablets.

And now this dude has to worry about 1) not being blown to pieces tonight; 2) not being sued by some asshole who needs to show the value they create for their corporate overlords.

Fantastic, isn't it?

Bethesda is NOT happy about my Fallout 1/2 emulator - DMCA notice received. fo2.exe

So... this just happened.

My app fo2.exe, for emulating Fallout 1 and 2 on Android (and PSP), has received a DMCA notice from a copyright enforcement company/subcontractor called Tracer acting on behalf of Bethesda/ZeniMax Media, Inc.

No game files. No ROMs. No textures. No music. No ripped assets. Nothing like that.

It's an emulator.

I'm serving in the National Guard of Ukraine, and my company is currently deployed around ****** city, one of the hottest areas of the war. People are actually dying here. Ripped legs and hands in 1...2...3...

I can appeal the DMCA, but that could potentially lead to a legal fight. And honestly... I could literally die tomorrow. So what the fuck am I supposed to be afraid of?

Just curious what Reddit thinks.

Groceries shopping

Hey all,

Just checking if any of locals are doing shopping runs to Andorra / Spain? We went to the Catalan part of Spain this weekend, and stopped in Mercadona. I was almost devastated by the fact that pork exists for 5-6 eur/kg, and chicken breast is to be had at 6-8 eur/kg.

Naturally, driving all the way there every weekend seems a bit harsh, especially given the return trip tolls, so I'm thinking if south is better? If so - where?

Thanks!

Mod appeal: rule 7

Hey all,

Consider this an open letter to the mods. I've been part of this community for a long time - I actually used my throwaway account at first, then switched to this one. I've been working in the zone for around 2 years overall, and I live in the EU. I've always been a supporter of Ukraine, and I've never questioned whether I'm in the right here supporting Ukraine in war against the ruzzian invaders.

It's a fairly clear situation to me: if we're looking at the invasion itself - it is an unprovoked act of war. If we look at the consequences - we see mass rape, torture, bombing of civilian targets, other war crimes. There's a solid case here for everyone but the most ridiculously biased Poo-tin lovers to understand who's wrong.

And yet, as soon as Chernobyl-related news are posted here in relation to war, like ruzzia's strike on Chernobyl museum, we see a huge influx of vatnik bots who, per my understanding, aren't breaking any rules by posting their 'opinion' trying to whitewash ruzzia, at the very least.

This last rocket and drone strike on Kyiv made me think that I'm not feeling comfortable in a sub which says this in one of the rules:

"Posts and Comments are prohibited if they take sides in the current tensions between Ukraine and Russia, or push any side's justification for war or advocate support for any party in the geopolitical situation. Posts and comments about how the conflict impacts the Zone and what effect a war might have are permitted as they are about the future of the Zone."

I cannot NOT take sides (and take Ukraine's side) when Ukrainian power plants, including the new confinement, and Ukrainian museums, including Chernobyl museum, are being bombed. The community shows it clearly: the vast majority of people here are actually on the same page re this - https://www.reddit.com/r/chernobyl/comments/1tn8n6m/just_crazy_assholes_president_zelenskyy_reacts_to/ - vatnik comments are downvoted into oblivion, anti-ruzzian ones are upvoted.

Why, then, is it an official rule of this sub to not do this, to not take sides? How am I supposed to react to Chernobyl-related news which are intertwined with Ukraine news - by pretending I can understand why ruzzians think it's okay to commit war crimes and murder the civilians? By ignoring these posts?

I'm asking for the mod community to reconsider this rule, or at least give a viable explanation to it beyond the usual "there are other subs for politics" - because there's nothing political in war criminals destroying Chernobyl museum or imprisoning the staff of Chernobyl Power Plant while they occupied the North of Ukraine.

Thanks.
