The Pens have a pretty obvious hole at LD. Kleven is the exact type of player that Dubas has been looking for.

Obviously Karlsson has been linked to the Sens as a trade possibility but the Sens also just lost a top line winger in Tkachuk and Rust or Rakell could fill that slot and are both good for 20+ goals on very affordable contracts.

Full disclosure. Im posting this because im bored and bummed out that the Jason Robertson dream is dead.

There are some rumblings that Horcoff could be the next GM of the Red Wings. He’s currently an AGM and has been described as one of the leading options for internal promotion and even the Chiclets guys (I know that they spout off sometimes, but they’re well connected to people around the league)on their show yesterday went as far as to say “it should be him.”

Now, if he does become GM, what does he trade to get his son Will from the Pens? Is this the ultimate path to Larkin? Edvinsson? Could Dubas unite all of the Plante brothers?

Is there a sneaky good player in their prospect pool you would specifically want back?

If the Canucks are tearing it all down, who would you like to see Dubas target? I would honestly, love to have Marcus Pettersson back. I bet Dubas could get him for less than what he was traded for.

Edit: Based on the responses I have some questions/comments.

He doesn’t fit the plan? Who has direct access to Dubas’ plan, to say what it is? He’s publicly said that the team needs to get younger and remain competitive. Since stating that the team needs to get younger he has signed and extended multiple players in the 28-31 age range that had significant impacts in making the team competitive. Brazeau, Novak, Mantha, Lizotte, Wotherspoon for example. Don’t put blinders on because Larkin isn’t 24.

He’s 1 year older than Novak, with 4 years left on his contract and I would take Larkin at 2C between Malkin and Chinakhov, over Novak in a heartbeat. He’s also a bonafide 1C. Let him feast on lesser opponents at 2C or have him lighten Crosby’s load to give 87 more advantageous matchups. In a couple years we can’t expect Sid to still be a true 1C and having Larkin take that role makes sense for the remainder of his contract until the team has someone younger to take the mantle.

Larkin is the exact player Dubas was appealing to at his end of year press conference. A guy who has control over where he goes. Full no move clause means he chooses his destination and lowers his return considerably. Yzerman doesn’t get to set the price really. Larkin gets to choose. That’s why Panarin went to LA for nothing.

Why wouldn’t he waive to come here? Pens just made the playoffs over a ton of teams that Detroit couldn’t beat in the home stretch. The Pens aren’t tanking and they just proved it.

At the end of Larkins contract he’ll be 35. Which in the modern NHL is still a fine age to get value back. If the Pens truly tank once Crosby is gone he’ll still have good value. Tell him thanks for the bridge and move him to wherever he wants to go to chase a cup.

Edit 2: 30 isn’t that old in this league anymore. Dubas said he isn’t going to sign UFAs in their 30’s to big contracts why did everyone take that quote and decide that we can’t have 30 year olds on the team? Dubas signed Mantha at 31. Novak is 29. Jake Guentzel is 31 and half this sub still cries that he isn’t on the team anymore. Larkin is turning 30 and is also a bonafide top 6 center.

I was watching the DK Double Shot yesterday and Taylor said that she had talked to Mantha’s camp about the possibility of extension. Apparently, Mantha’s camp said that Mantha wants to stay and Dubas is uninterested. She made it sound as though it wasn’t an impasse based on salary or term but, that Dubas simply never planned to bring him back.

Obviously, Mantha will get offers elsewhere.

I know the Dubas plan is to get younger but 31 goals won’t be easy to just make up either by single player or by committee. I wonder if Mantha doesn’t like any offers if Dubas would bring him back on a short term deal. GMKD must have some big irons in the fire if he can just pass on a 30 goal scorer.
