How long have you had UARS for? What do you think is causing your UARS? Treatment plan?

I've had UARS since around January 2025. I'm 38yo. Always slept with what I believe to be perfect sleep.

I definitely know I used to snore, even when healthy weight etc, not sure if I mouth breathed. I went a long time not brushing my teeth and never got a cavity, so maybe I got lucky there and didn't mouth breathe..

I have an allergy problem so starting with that, shots for the next 3-5 years for dust mites and grass pollen.. then Marpe, myo etc, then MMA.

I know I have a posture problem too from gaming a lot. Working on everything I can right now. Quit gaming. Trying to get work to pay for the treatment plan.

I've just remembered dust mite allergy can come on from high exposure to the mites themselves. So to be honest, I never use to change my bed sheets, or very rarely, yes I was a pig and lazy in that department. My allergist said you can get your dust mite allergy from having bad bed hygeine. Changing bedding weekly now.

Prob have soft tissue collapse, tongue collapse, fatty tongue rn, airway compromised due to restricted nasal breathing.

Fixes off the top of my head - allergy shots, nasal breathing, buteyko breathing, posture, tongue posture, meditation, weight management, balloon exercises, soft tissue strengthening, healthy diet, Marpe/ MMA.

Whats your story ladies n gents?

I sold a 19g 9ct 375 necklace to a jewelry store here in Australia and received $450 AUD. Did I get ripped off?

Sorry, i'm new to all this stuff and didn't realise the price of gold and silver. So just asking if anyone knows. And believe I have made a mistake, it was my first time selling a gold piece which was my mothers friend who passed away.

I've just started treatment for dust mite/ grass pollen allergies to help my upper airway resistance syndrome. How long does treatment usually take to help or get better?

Just asking if anyone knows how long treatment can take before noticing benefits?

If doing everything right - cleaning bedding, sheets, quilts, cases, dust mite proof covers etc

And if anyone had UARS and allergy treatment helped them both with symptoms and sleep.

Going balls to the wall to fix UARS.

I'm going all out with treating my UARS.

I've just completely quit video games and am now working 200% on my health. Locking the f in..

Posture fixes. Soft tissue strengthening down the track - possibly pointless right now as allergies are a problem.
Treating allergies - need to wash bedding weekly (dust mite and grass pollen allergies) - to help ease nocturnal nasal congestion and optimize nasal breathing. Getting shots weekly for 8 weeks - then 1/month for 3-5 years. Immunotherapy works best if sheets are washed weekly.

Myo work down the track.

Expansion as soon as I can afford. - will work better with allergies treated. Perhaps expansion could help on it's own for allergy symptoms but am in no rush due to funds and just being patient with allergy treatment for now.

DISE getting locked in for a year away.

Perhaps might need uvula removal later on as I have a snoring sensation that seems to be easily brought on if I try.

Buteyko breathing could be complimentary alongside meditation. Perhaps didgeridoo or wind instruments/ singing could help - as it's been proven to help sleep apnea patients and even fix sleep apnea.

Eating better is a goal - weight loss - currently 90kg+ 6ft tall.. want to get down to 70-80kg. - Can reduce fatty tongue also, creating more room and potentially less collapse.

MMA down the track + Genio hopefully to bring the tongue more forward into a better resting position.

It's a multifaceted problem that needs a multifactorial approach and all angles covered.

These are my plans. I will get healthier. I will be healthy. Hopefully this helps you too.

Everyone at the allergy place today looked like they had UARS. They all looked tired. I'm only guessing, but probably right.

What do you think the odds of allergies being a huge culprit to some of us and our sleep disordered breathing?

I know my allergies are definitely a factor as they attribute to blocking my nose at night when sleeping.

Also, i'm strongly assuming I might have some type of collapse.. but I also know collapse can happen from the vacuum effect of a blocked nose and mouth breathing.

If I were to guess what problem I have, i'd say the above mentioned along with a narrow airway, tongue collapse and lateral wall collapse due to a narrow airway. As I find it difficult to swallow on the very rare occasion. And my posture isn't the best - leading to more collapse/ narrowness when sleeping.

So allergies > MARPE/ MSE > MMA

Natural fixes > Posture > Myo > Buteyko breathing > Soft tissue strengthening of the neck via posture exercises.. neck wall holds etc. > then whatever else - didgeridoo etc etc. Whatever needs to be done.

You will fix your upper airway resistance syndrome. You just have to put the power of your mind towards fixing it.

Manifest good health upon yourself. Choose things that benefit your health. Put away the bad stuff. The computers. The phones. The bad food. Etc. Make those changes.

Do all the things that get you to a better more healthy version of yourself. And yes, this goes for me too. I have vices I need to fix and will.

I computer game, I eat bad food etc etc. I will be making changes.

I just ran into somebody today who talked to me about all this stuff and it was very interesting what he had to say on many topics, but I asked him, so I have the power to treat my sickness and he said yes.

Keep saying to yourself you will get healthy etc etc. The power of the mind is a powerful force. I will be healthy. I will get healthy. I will make healthy choices etc..

Think it, feel it, do it.

Something like that.. thank you for listening to my speech.

I'm confident I can fix my UARS, but feel like it's a death sentence at the same time.

Currently sorting out allergies - shot vials are on their way.

Saving for MARPE/ MSE expansion (failing on saving lol).

Will most likely go MMA route.

Last night I moved my mandible forward like 1cm and noticed my snoring sounds I can generate dissipated - I wonder if that's a handy clue in what I need. A big movement with MMA like 1.5cm for e.g. lower and what not on the maxilla.

I have the nose blockage symptoms which are from allergy and/ or anatomy. Elevated sleep could fix it with cpap so yet to try that. But I have a feeling once allergies are fixed it should compliment MARPE and MMA.

Also have to work on both posture and tongue posture. I game a lot of a night to destress - LoL and rocket league.

And also buteyko breathing could definitely help with all that.

I know Myo is important once you're planning on MMA.

I feel hopeful, but also so depressed at times wondering if it's all for nothing. But we gotta try hey.

UARS fam, what's your CPAP/ BIPAP settings and how much sleep does this get you?

How many hours in a row do you get? Arousal then another few hours?

All nighter?

I'm on CPAP, I usually get 3-4 hours, wake up, try remain calm, fall back asleep for another 2-4 hours.

Fixed 12.6 to 13.6 still tweaking 1 year later.

I have night nasal congestion so feel its a big factor in both perma treatment and CPAP treatment. Dunno if should be on Bilevel. Taping mask to my chin helps I think.

Why are there different outcomes for a cure to UARS with expansion and MMA?

CPAP friend only got half cured from expansion + MMA.

Lukethedocumentary got only partial 'cure' with MMA. - Upper 9mm, bottom 10mm. Plus, counterclockwise rotation!

Evan Lavizadeh got a complete cure from expansion + MMA.

And I've seen others who got a complete cure from marpe + MMA. And I think others have not.

A guy i'm talking to had 2 expansions and 2 MMAs and wasn't treated til he had his 2nd MMA. Sleep apnea initially, then had UARS after the 1st MMA, then fixed after the 2nd surgery. Not enough expansion on the 1st one, then plenty of expansion on the second MMA.

So I wonder, why some get a cure and others do not.

Whats the common denominator for a fix and untreated?

Correct me if I'm wrong. UARs is nasal resistance. Sleep apnea is the narrowing part of the throat airway.

Let's get this straight. UARs is partial collapse of what sites exactly? I thought it was more the nasal cavity and surrounding sites. Also, if it's a narrowing of the airway causing partial collapse.. then how is this happening I wonder. Correct me if im wrong.

I'm seeing a trend of people who suffer UARs have an allergy and/ or anatomical problem perhaps, causing blockages and partial obstruction leading to mouth breathing, where suction of the tongue can become an issue causing tongue obstruction in the throat (from what I read on Shuikais comments - which makes total sense).

Then there's the standard sleep apnea where the tongue simply collapse in the throat causing the same problem. Or some other collapse in the airway causing full obstruction? Yes?

But if UARS is 'skeletal', why has my problem only come up at 37yo and not my whole life?

The interesting part for me is I got UARS January 2025. Right when I'm starting to have an allergy problem causing nasal resistance problems - nocturnal nasal congestion. Slept 5 hours perfect in hospital sleep study. Sleep 1-2 at home (no cpap).

Scared to try it at home with a clean bed without cpap lol. (Dust mite allergy problem).

If it was truly skeletal then I would've been suffering my whole life and not only recently. Thoughts?

UARS fam, how much sleep do you get per night? How many wake ups usually? And whats your activity levels/ work like.

I get like 7-9 hours sleep.

Maybe like 3-4 hours in a row.

2-3 or so arousals in the night.

I train/ surf 6 days a week. Eat a high protein diet. But still feel f**ed. Just wondering what yall get and what you do.

Age 37yo. Height: 6ft tall Weight: 90kg

Have high allergies dust mites and grass pollen, causing nocturnal nasal congestion. Possibly connected to my UARS. Not sure if shots or tablets will be best. Booked in next month to adress that.

Trying to save for expansion. I've heard that can help even for allergy problems and nasal symptoms. Hard to save cash though.

Hopefully these cure me, but if not. Hopefully it helps optimize nasal breathing at least. Then I guess we'd have to go MMA if all else fails. And look into nasal surgeries if not optmized. Just a random post.. anyways.. feel like im dying lol.

C-collar, evora ffm but leaks when I fall asleep, is there anything I can do to fix this?

The leak happens because I tuck my chin into my chest, so the mask sort of raises off of my chin over my nose more, then I get a leak under my lip.

Was thinking pad a cheek perhaps? Please help.

Anyone cleared their UARS just from fixing their allergies and nasal congestion? - dust mites, pollen etc.

As the title asks.

I remember mouth tape working for me in the Aussie summer of 2025. Then all of a sudden it stopped working, and my sleep really got worse. But it took some time to realize what part of the problem was, my nose.
Nasal congestion is a big factor with my sleep disordered breathing I believe. But I really am just throwing darts at this point. I don't know which came first with mine, the SDB, or the nasal congestion.
But I believe it's multifactorial.

I've heard some people clearing their nasal congestion/ allergy problem simply from expansion appliances. So that gives hope.

So i'm treating this from the ground up.

So, I think my UARS is caused by my allergy problem to dust mites and grass pollen. Causing nocturnal nasal congestion.

One side of my nose is literally blocked of a night time.
My at home sleep study I had a 76sec hypopnea. - I tested this with my nasal congestion and it took over a minute for each side to clear while the other side was blocked, both sides blocked for a while - maybe 75 seconds ish, it took approx 75 seconds for this to happen. So i'm suspicious on this.

My in lab sleep study in hospital I slept like a baby for 5 hours. Those clean sheets and clean air probably helped.

When I jumped into bed 2 nights ago and put my CPAP mask on straight away, my nose was clear all night. But if I looked at my phone for 20 minutes or so in bed, the congestion appears because my bed is a bit dirty hey.

This is my problem, and i've read other UARS posts from years ago recently who've said something similar.

You there. Do you have an allergy problem? Do you have nasal resistance? Probably yes? UARS is basically the nose not getting enough air in. AND/ OR the anatomy in your upper airway is compromised and your airway in general therefore collapses while you sleep. Yes?

UARS fam, what's your CPAP pressure? And how much sleep in one go does this get you?

My CPAP pressure has been on 13.6 and this has gotten me 3 hours sleep, 4 if very lucky.

But I lowered it to 13. Same 3 hours of sleep.

Then the next night lowered it to 12.6 - last night got approx 5 hours of sleep.

Wondering whether to keep going lower. 5 hours I can function well on - with nofap and healthy diet and training 6 days a week. Yes I eat junk food.

Thoughts fam? Tell me your cpap pressures and how you function and sleep etc.

Where in NSW, Australia can I get tested for UARS?

Does anyone know where I can get tested for UARS in a sleep study in NSW if possible?

I'm near Newcastle.
