Friend saw some lights on the mountain last night and told us about it, so we went to check it out tonight and were also able to see it. There are three lights near the top of Pikes' Peak: one bright one and one dimmer one just down and to the left of it, then a third further down and to the right, and then we were seeing a red light probably a mile or two down the mountain line from there blinking on and off randomly. The third light near the top was slowly moving back and forth under the other two as well, and they were sort of shifting colors from orange to yellow to green and back. Anyone have any idea what we might be seeing? Best we can tell it's either aliens or DARPA.

Our photos are taken from 15 miles away from the peak near the south end of Palmer Park. The others attached are from weather cameras, not exactly sure where the first is but the second is at GOG and they're VERY bright from there.

Update from a year ago: according to Cityquiz.io, ATS now represents 16.35% of the population

Made one of these a year ago, so here's the update with Iowa, Illinois, and Louisiana included. One year ago, the game was at 13.55% of the United States' population.

The largest city represented is Los Angeles, CA (3,898,747 people), and the smallest is San Simon, AZ (158 people), though CityQuiz wouldn't accept a couple others and they may be even smaller than that, as I think CityQuiz.io only includes towns with over 100 people.

Notably, ATS now contains 8 out of the 10 American cities with over 1,000,000 people in the city proper as of the 2020 census (the two that are not included are New York and Philadelphia). All numbers are based on the 2020 census, it's worth noting that Austin, TX and Jacksonville, FL are also now over 1,000,000 people as of 2026.

Just like last year, scenery towns that do not have at least one playable location (such as Rachel, NV or Wiggins, CO) are not included. It also would not accept Primm, Nevada (population 774) because it is not an officially incorporated town.

Comment period open on plan to drill near Chaco Canyon

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is opening a 14-day public comment period for the draft Environmental Assessment (EA) for Proposed Revocation of Public Land Order No. 7923.

In plain English, this means that they are proposing to revoke protection from 338,690 acres of public land adjacent to the national park. This would open the landscape to up to 14 new oil and gas wells. This development could bring light pollution and air pollution and fragment habitat, threatening irreplaceable cultural artifacts, wildlife, and the park's famous dark skies.

You can submit detailed comments on the BLM planning page:

  1. Go to https://eplanning.blm.gov/Project-Home/?id=D949F582-402D-F111-8341-001DD804183B
  2. Select “Participate Now” and enter your written comment in English.
  3. Attach documents if needed (maps, photos, citations).
  4. Click Submit. You’ll receive a confirmation.

Comments are due July 29, 2026 at midnight Mountain daylight time
