After two layoffs in two years I'm doing my own thing finally. It feels awesome.
I've essentially been unemployed for most of the last two years and it fucking blows. For awhile I've been doing Uber and Lyft to barely survive. While most passengers i get are chill its a constant cycle of why do you drive? Whats your day job? How long have you been job hunting? with responses ranging from sympathetic and go getter to outright condescending and rude. It frankly takes a hell of a toll on your noggin. When I'm not driving I'm filling out countless applications like everyone else in this sub and I feel hopeless all the time. But honestly the last two weeks I've had a renewed energy and finally feel not completely hopeless with slight purpose I guess. To the point that many of my friends have commented directly on it lol. And its all because I was violently hungover laying in bed a few weeks ago scrolling through jobs on indeed and got frustrated. Hangover brain and job apps don't mix well lol. So i stopped looking and continued doom scrolling on other apps. For some psychotic reason when I'm bored I like to look at houses I can't afford on zillow and as I was looking at some townhouse with an asinine price, it dawned on me. Why can't I look at jobs on a map like zillow?
Weeks later hear I am with a beta version of what I envisioned and it feels fuckin awesome. No idea if I'll ever actually make decent money with it but it still feels good to be doing something again. Its a job board dedicated to the service industry. Right now its designed specifically for Atlanta but if successful I'll expand to other cities quick. Every job posted on it auto loads all the relevant public transit and parking data for the city and displays it on each listing. With options for the employer to provide additional context on parking (like if they have a lot or pay for it etc). You can browse in a traditional list view or pull up a map and literally see where jobs are. With optional map overlays for rail, bus routes, bus stops and rail stations.
Outside of that it has all the normal filters other job boards have. Pay (mandatory to list pay range on all job posts), PT/FT, benefits etc. But I also added some optional granularity so you can search by the type of business you want to work at. Say you're a bartender but want to avoid sports bars and prefer dive bars. You can filter the jobs to do exactly that. Outside of that, I made the cost for employers pretty damn low so small businesses can always afford it. No sponsored listings, no burying them to the back of the lists. What you offer attracts the attention you want.
Anyhoo, I hope people like it and actually want to use it 😅. If mods allow, I'll post a link to it in the comments! I've purposefully not named it or linked to it cause I'm genuinely not trying to spam ya'll. Honestly I would just love some feedback on it.
