Excuse me sir, I have something to say.

Lamb on the grill.

Got my summer bonus. Worked hard all summer and had in mind a couple “splurge” items to use my bonus on.
I haven’t purchased new boots since 2022. Wanted a new ram lamb for next season. Works out to about 35% of my bonus.

I picked out new boots online, got sick to my stomach at how much they cost. Wife said “just get new boots-it’s not like you will get another bonus anytime soon” Mentioned to wife I wanted to get new ram with my bonus and got shot down. “We will see about that”

Haven’t been able to sell this years lambs yet.

Got notice today that the VA denied my brain tumor claim. Three combat deployments, busted body and two brain tumors.
Denied.

Feeling completely heartbroken as all I really wanted was to buy a new pair of boots and a ram lamb. There would still be more than half left over for whatever other household items/expenses. The bonus was exactly that, not funds that we ever count on in the budget.

No boots. No Sheep.

Frank the Great Dane is a new addition to the farm. 4 month old got dumped at the shelter. He doesn’t know what to think of the sheep, lambs Almond Joy and MilkyWay don’t know what to think either.

I now have a 4 month old Great Dane. Never had this breed before, guy got dumped at the local shelter.
He joins my sheep, ducks, chickens, rat terrier, and Austrian cattle dog. Had no plans on getting another dog, but sometimes the dog finds you. 🤷‍♂️

My chicken got all broody and crazy- gave her some duck eggs to sit on. Now we have duckens? Chicklings? More critters on this crazy little farm of misfits lol

Cool well water in the pools makes for happy ducks on a sweltering day!

Seriously! This heat and humidity is awful! Turn on the AC!

Just a couple ducks on the roof! I have 50 runner ducks as well as a few Peking’s and Campbells. This pair flew in, hung out a bit then left.

Just some fuzzy sheep getting to graze in the ditch. The mesh net fence is pretty handy for putting up temporary grazing areas.

Banjo got a new friend, he smells interesting and has a bottle of milk that smells even better!

In the fall I separated my spring lambs and put the ewes I wanted bred with the ram. I have a new and small flock of Shetlands. Beginning of December there was a big storm that did some damage including to my pasture fences. All the sheep ended up back together after the storm and in the morning I got everyone separated again.
Saturday and Last night, my two lambs( now yearlings) had lambs. The ram lamb ended up being a bottle baby as he got rejected and his sister is with mama. The other ewe had a single and they seem fine.
I’m sure I’m not the first with this Whoops and won’t be the last- for those that have had this happen, what do you do with them? The ram is scheduled to get wethered by the vet next week and we plan on keeping him as my daughter loved him.
