Where Was This Taken (Rome)

Ok, so where was this taken? It was in Rome in November of last year. I remember the place being near or around Meininger Termini in Rome, it was also opposite a doctor's surgery. Thank you

Newspaper Lookup On The British Newspaper Archive

Hi,

Would somebody lookup an article on the British Newspaper Archive for me please? Here is the link:- https://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/search/results/1940-01-01/1949-12-31?basicsearch=john%20blenkinsopp&somesearch=john%20blenkinsopp&retrievecountrycounts=false&newspapertitle=blyth%2bnews

It should be the first article to pop up on the list of results, it dates from the 3rd of August 1942, and is in the Blyth News. It relates to John Blenkinsopp, a storeman in the Blyth Shipyard. It may have the subheading "Witness Tells of £10 Weekly Gift." Thank you very much. If you can find it for me, that would be great.

RootsChat Family History Forum

Hi,

A couple of weeks ago, I made a post on here, about RootsChat being down and offline, which has gained some responses. Since then, the site has not loaded at all on my browser or anybody else's for that matter. I'm beginning to get nervous that the site is going like this permanently, or that something is happening behind the scenes. I have heard something about a server breakdown.

Does anybody here have any connections to Trystam, the site owner? if the site was to go down the drain like so many other family history websites and forums, it would be absolutely devastating to the family history and genealogy community. If anybody knows anything, please comment.

RootsChat Problems?

Hi,

Is anybody here a user of RootsChat? If so, has anybody been encountering any problems whilst using it? I have been trying to log onto it for the past week, but have been unable to do so, and I just get an error message on my computer's browser. Are anybody else experiencing these difficulties using it? Thanks

P.S. It was also like this for a while in May, if I recall correctly.

1947 Smith-Corona Clipper

Here is my 1947 Smith-Corona Clipper typewriter, that was proffesionally serviced by Tom Lucas "The Typewriter Man" of Leiston, Suffolk in 2024. The machine works perfectly and types good with a nice elite typeface and imprint. However, it is not as good as my German-made typewriters, but in my view better than what the other American brands were offering at that time.

Looks:- 9/10

Feel:- 6/10 (a bit loose)

Imprint:- 7/10 (not as crisp or as clear as it should be)

Usability:- 8/10

Loudness:- 6/10

All in all a decent little typewriter.

Excuse the shoddy pictures.

Brother De Luxe Typewriter, First Impressions

This is another addition to my collection--my 1962 Brother De Luxe typewriter, which was made in Nagoya, Japan. Based on the Brother Valiant range of ultraportable typewriters, this little typewriter has proved to be a very worthy typewriter for the size and cost of it.

It is made extremely well, and fits into a neat blue zipper case and can be easily transported from place to place, and it is also suitable for lap typing--having an enclosed base.

The feel of the typewriter is slightly loose and heavy, however, the action is very smooth and it does produce a good imprint even on an old ribbon. A good thing is that it does have a very smooth carriage, a thing that I've only encountered on two other ultraportables (The Adler Tippa and Olympia Splendid 33/66 and SF range), along with a preset tabulator, which is a nice touch.

All in all, a very sweet ultraportable.
