Star Fox 64 needed this remake

Everything about this remake has been so spot on. It expands on the characters, makes the world feel more rich and alive. The 3DS remake now just looks like an HD mod by comparison. I get Zero was a “retelling” of the same story, but at this point, Zero just looks like a spin-off that uses 64’s story. Like the “I guess this is all an HD Star Fox 64 will ever be, so I might as well make the most of it”.

As far as I’m concerned, Star Fox for Switch is the one true remake. It retells the story better. Very rarely does a remake make me see the original as obsolete. Sometimes a remake is so different, it doesnt outright replace the original, even if its a better game like Metroid 2 and the 3DS remake. But with Star Fox for switch, idk if I would ever play the 64 one. If I’m feeling nostalgic I’ll just watch youtube clips.

Star Fox landed that perfect spot where it keeps the exact same soul of the original and becoming the definitive edition. The only other remake that comes to mind is Resident Evil for gamecube.

Its a masterpiece.

I found my VB shirt’s number card

A couple months ago, I shared a photo of a virtual boy shirt I bought over a decade ago and that supposedly only 50 of each size were made. I forgot where I had stored the card and sticker, but it popped up as I was cleaning out my childhood bedroom. I wonder if it would be possible to track down the others? I know Pat the NES Punk had this shirt.

Star Fox Zero is like riding a bike

You never forget. I thought I’d be rusty after all these years, but it was surprisingly easy to get back into. Like muscle memory, I had no problem pivoting my vision between my gamepad and tv. Granted my set up helps, having a chair with arm rests helps me hold it like a steering wheel and still enough to not need it for the on-rail stages. But even in all range mode, the motion controls help for that little extra stretch I need to target a fleeing enemy.

I dont want to say I enjoy it more than star fox 64. Zero is definitely a slower game, thats not always a good. But as a game, on its own merit, so far, so good.

Hear me out, what if, at the end of Star Fox for Switch 2…

…the credits roll. Fade to black. Text appears. “X years later”. And you can now play a post-game thats a remake of Star Fox 2.

And when you finish that, you can use the new characters from the second half in the first half.

Arts and craft

A friend was in Japan recently and I asked him to bring me back a common, easy to find disk system game to see how I could use a shadow box to display it. I’m happy with it 🐸
