Local museum trip, trying my own post processing

These are from a local museum I’ve visited a dozen times. My goal was to find angles and scenes I’ve never appreciated before, and then handle all post processing myself rather than rely on presets (particularly for color).

All shot with a z6iii, Nikon 35mm 1.8, and a CPL filter during or shortly after rain.

Local Gardens after / before

This is one of my first shots I’ve processed from scratch rather than using a preset as a base for coloring. I’ve never had a sense of how colors work together and I’m trying to teach myself this rather late in life I guess. (Lightroom’s RGB curves in particular still seem like magic to me.)

My goal here was to tame the greens and make the reds really pop, along with a general grade toward blue in the shadows. Looking for any C&C.

Birding/telephoto for $1200–Tamron, Nikon F?

Hi folks, trying to decide on a supertelephoto to add to my kit (z6iii, 24-120, 35 1.8). Birding and some telephoto landscape have always been a goal and I finally am ready to bite the bullet, but I’m aiming for $1200 or less, preferably less. I know this limits my options and I’m curious how people feel about what’s available at this range.

So I’m weighing the Tamron 150-500, or an adapted Nikon 200-500. The Nikon’s added bulk is a big con because I’ll be using this on long walks/hikes, and I don’t yet own an FTZ. Obviously a refurb 180-600 would be ideal but I’ve pretty much given up on snagging one.

There’s also a part of me considering the Nikon 500 PF. The PF is my grail lens and the reason I switched to Nikon after trying it out a while back, but having only a telephoto prime and no zoom feels pretty silly.

TLR lens assembly doesn’t retract fully — how to fix?

Hi all, I purchased a CLA’d Autocord a few months ago and it worked fine until a recent trip. I’ve just noticed that the lens assembly no longer retracts fully, so it can no longer focus to infinity, and if I push to focus lever too far the lens assembly comes off its guides (at about 4.5 feet on the scale). Is this something I can fix or do I need (yet another) CLA? How does something like this even happen? I’ve tried to be very careful with it, but here I am.

Photos show most retracted (the lens should be flush and not showing the internal steel); most extended when the assembly pops off its guides; and distance scale at most extended.

Thanks!

Black Hill Park at Sunset

A little color as we all wait out this never ending rain.

These were shot on film on a Minolta Autocord. First is Reflx Lab 500T, second is Kodak Gold.
