My backyard pumpkins!

Grew these from random decorative pumpkins from a couple years back. Saved the seeds and I got some interesting ones! Only one I think seems to be close to the parent, the really small cute one I think is close in appearance. The other two are completely different!

I did grow the same white ones last year from the same saved seeds but this year this particular plant is producing way bigger ones! I’m so stoked to have big ole ones and tiny ones!

Cantaloupe fruit leather how to help!

I have a lot of fresh ripe cantaloupe from my garden and was planning on blending it and making fruit leather in my dehydrator tomorrow morning.

Some I will blend with wild blueberries from frozen that I’ve thawed first. I may add honey but I’ll taste first and decide.

My question is should I add anything else, like pectin? I saw that floating around in past posts about fruit leather made with low pectin fruits. I’d rather it come out really good then be crap since it’s a LOT of my home grown fruit lol

Raspberries in raised bed are spreading - help!

So I moved my Caroline red raspberries to a 10” tall 3 foot by 6 foot raised bed. They are starting to send out suckers outside the bed. I figured this would happen. However I didn’t realize Caroline was particularly aggressive, it’s popping up in my next bed over. I’m trying to decide what to do.

I can dig them up and put them back in a big pot (where they were the last 2-3 years) and put in a less aggressive variety like royalty purple or brand wine

I can dig them up and modify the bed with something along the bottom so they cant spread out anymore outside the bed. If I do this, what do I put underneath?? I’ve seen how weed barrier doesn’t work, weeds come up through even the premium stuff. Need help!

Which flowers give the highest pollinator activity

Curious in y’all’s gardens which flowers your growing that you notice the most pollinator activity? I’m growing a lot of different flowers, I’ll list them and which ones I see most activity on. I want to find the highest activity ones to plant more of next year and less if the least ones!

Calendula - hardly see any
Sun flowers - constant bumble bees
Bachelor button - lots of bees of all kinds big and tiny
Coreopsis - lots of tiny pollinators
Zinnias (3 kinds) - lots of bees and butterflies but mostly on the bright solid colored kinds
Snap dragons - sadly I see hardly none
Straw flower - hardly none
Corn poppy - not any
Cone flower - I see some activity
Pansies - none
Herbs that have gone to flower - tons of tiny pollinators on my cilantro flowers and dill!
Various perennials - lots on cat mint/goldenrod/native fox glove/ salvia/sedum

Xmas cat ornaments I made for 2025! Felt fabric with stuffing and ribbon.

My tree is a mini tree haha! Everyone else I gave one too has a big normal sized tree 🫶🏻 I kept the one at the top!

Already thinking of ideas for this years, it’s turning into a tradition of mine to make ornaments 🎁

Update on my paw paw seed germination question from 95 days ago!

They are just starting to germinate!! What do I do now lol?? In October we have our first expected frost date, should I pot them up by then and bring them indoors to live under grow lights? Or will they be ok in pots outdoors all winter get zone 6A. I assume they are too small to withstand freezing temps.

Mango and banana are the flavor profiles the fruits had, luckily for me two seeds from two different fruits are sprouting, the seeds came from wild paw paws!

Update on my apple trees I grew from seed about 80-90 days ago!

Here they are today! They had some ups and downs but they are both doing really well! I’m just letting them do their thing and keeping them watered.

Will I have a chance to get figs this year? Chicago cold hardy fig tree. 6A

This is a fig tree I planted from a hardware store boxed sapling. I bought it in April, planted it in a small pot till temps were right for planting it outside. I’ve had it in this big pot since May. I noticed little buds or growths in the leaf notches. Is there a chance I can still get figs or is it too late? I assume it’s too late. I’m in zone 6A.

Also I’ll take tips on winter protection, this is my second time growing this variety and the first time it died over winter. (Never came back the following spring. I do have an unheated garage, I could maybe get a hand truck (dolly) and try to move it in there but that wouldn’t be ideal.

Someone else

Man I think this is one of my top favorite songs of his! The beat and music is so freaking cool. Makes me wanna dance and gives me like idek what kind of vibes. Cyber punk, tron vibes for some reason.

I’m so mad listening to all of his amazing songs with sick music and beats cuz now it’s pretty much all we are allowed to have. I cant stop wishing things were different for so many reasons. 💔

My hybrid basil! Crossed between ruby red basil and Genovese.

Saved the seeds from the ruby red plant after it went to seed. Had it planted next to Genovese basil. When I planted seeds they came out mostly hybrid, I love the look of them! Some still come out just ruby! I also planted more Genovese in this photo.

SVB in full force

Found sooo many eggs on my squash, wound up finding 3 at first kept checking because I figured that was no where near all of them. Removed some lower leaves and found tons!

I am testing out a scented lure SVB trap and so far it’s caught 4 and no pollinators. So hopefully that’s helping. I keep a couple squash under a bug net hoop house and some in pots. The plant that has the most on one leaf is actually a butternut, they should be resistant but that many I fear would have been really bad lol. Going to be checking twice a day for eggs now.

I did also find eggs at the base of the stems so I removed those and then am testing putting these tree collars around the base of the plants.
